    HYROX CAIRO TRAVEL GUIDE 2026

Egypt's International Exhibition Center (EIEC), Hall 4, El-Moshir Tantawy Axis, Al Hay Al Asher, Nasr City, Cairo Governorate 4440510

TL;DR — RACE WEEKEND GAME PLAN

    1. 1.Ignore the official transport note. Fairgrounds station on Metro Line 3 serves the old fair site 13 km away. You want Al Moshir Tantawy on the East Nile Monorail, 600 m and a 10 minute walk from the complex.
    2. 2.The monorail runs 06:00 to 21:00 only. Saturday's Doubles Mixed ends 20:30 and Sunday ceremonies run to 22:15 — book a car home for anything late.
    3. 3.Earliest start both days is 10:00 and check-in opens 90 minutes before your division's first wave. Bring photo ID; you cannot check in for anyone else.
    4. 4.No hotel is within a 30 minute walk. The closest is around 2.4 km along a desert highway corridor — treat every hotel as a short drive and pick on comfort and recovery.
    5. 5.Stay in New Cairo or on the Moshir Tantawy axis. Triumph for the shortest transfer plus Defy Egypt cryo in the building; Ramage for budget on the venue's own road.
    6. 6.Nothing near the venue opens early and nothing is walkable. Hotel breakfast, then Cairo Festival City Mall for everything else.
    7. 7.There is no usable running loop near the venue. Hotel treadmill, or an easy out-and-back on New Cairo compound roads. Never the Moshir Tantawy highway.
    8. 8.Bring your own consumables, tape and spare laces. The nearest reliable pharmacy is a drive and the supplement shops are 13 km out.
    9. 9.Egypt's weekend is Friday and Saturday. Most New Cairo physio clinics close on Fridays, so book Thursday or Saturday morning.
    10. 10.This is Egypt's first HYROX and the lap count is unpublished. Re-check lap count, final start times and hall or gate assignment in race week.

QUICK TAKE — IS THIS A GOOD DESTINATION?

    VERDICT: YES

HYROX Cairo runs Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November 2026 at Egypt's International Exhibition Center (EIEC), Hall 4, in Nasr City. This is the first HYROX ever held in Egypt, so there is no course history, no venue folklore and no previous field to benchmark against. It suits athletes who like being early to something. Cost level is low once you land — Egypt is inexpensive for food, transport and mid-range hotels by European or Gulf standards — with flights and the visa as the main fixed costs.

⚠️ Caveat: One correction before you book anything: the official event page points you to Metro Line 3 and Fairgrounds station. That station serves the OLD Cairo fairgrounds near Cairo Stadium, about 10.5 km from this venue. Use the East Nile Monorail to Al Moshir Tantawy instead — but note it runs only 06:00 to 21:00, and Sunday award ceremonies are listed at 22:15.

    Stress Factor5/10

A short 18 km airport transfer and a 10:00 earliest start take most of the pressure off. Points added back for a venue with almost nothing walkable nearby and a monorail that stops running before the late waves finish.

    PB Likelihood7/10

November in Cairo is mild and very dry, starts are late enough to sleep properly, and the transfer is short. Held back only because the hall layout and lap count are unpublished, so you cannot plan pacing around the course yet.

    FAST COURSE?

Depends. Indoor exhibition hall, so no weather and no elevation. Whether it runs fast comes down to hall temperature, floor surface and turn count, none of which are confirmed for a debut event.

CITY VIBE — WHAT ATHLETES NEED TO KNOW

The EIEC is a large modern exhibition complex on the El-Moshir Tantawy Axis, on the eastern edge of Nasr City where it meets New Cairo. What surrounds it is the thing to understand: wide highways and undeveloped land. No high street, no cluster of cafes across the road, nothing you would call a neighbourhood within walking distance. Travel friction is moderate rather than high — the airport is close, ride-hailing works well, and the monorail drops you almost at the door. The friction is that everything except the monorail station is a drive. Note also that Egypt's weekend is Friday and Saturday, not Saturday and Sunday: Friday is the main day off and many clinics and smaller businesses close entirely, while Sunday is a normal working day.

Language: Arabic, with English widely spoken in hotels, malls and by ride-hail drivers in the New Cairo area — less so at budget properties, where reception English gaps are a recurring review theme. Currency: Egyptian pound. Carry cash. Cards work in hotels, malls and larger restaurants, but small shops, street taxis and many local businesses are cash-first. ATMs are widely available in malls and at the airport. Tipping is customary and expected across hospitality and service; small notes for porters, housekeeping and restaurant staff are normal.

    BEST BASE NEIGHBOURHOODS

    New Cairo / Fifth Settlement

Best for: The overall balance, and where most visiting athletes should base. Closest cluster of modern hotels, malls, recovery studios, specialty coffee and 24-hour hospitals.

    The Moshir Tantawy axis itself

Best for: Shortest transfer. Very few options and almost nothing around them, but you are minutes from the door and on the monorail line.

    Nasr City proper

Best for: Cheaper local hotels and 24-hour supermarkets. Sits 8 to 11 km from the venue, so you gain price and lose transfer time.

    Heliopolis / airport district

Best for: A short trip with an early flight home. Close to CAI and well served by hotels, but a longer run to the venue.

    VENUE & LOCATION ANALYSIS

Egypt's International Exhibition Center (EIEC), Hall 4

El-Moshir Tantawy Axis, Al Hay Al Asher, Nasr City, Cairo Governorate 4440510

A large modern exhibition complex with multiple gates and multiple halls. Visitors to the big trade fairs consistently describe long walks between halls, so give yourself extra time to find the right gate and check the event app or signage rather than assuming the nearest entrance is yours. You are in Hall 4. The exhibition centre has restaurants and cafes inside the grounds, which for many athletes will be the only realistic on-site food option. What is open early nearby: very little. Nothing within walking distance opens reliably before the venue does, so sort breakfast at your hotel or bring it with you. One venue rule worth knowing if you are travelling with family: large strollers are not allowed inside, compact folding models only.

    NEAREST STATIONS

    • Al Moshir Tantawy (East Nile Monorail)About 600 m, roughly a 10 minute walk. The seventh station from the Cairo Stadium end. This is the station you want
    • Cairo Stadium (monorail terminus)Interchange with Cairo Metro Line 3. Cairo Stadium to Al Moshir Tantawy is 6 stops, trains every 6 to 8 minutes
    • Fairgrounds / Fair Zone (Metro Line 3)The station the official event page points to — and the wrong one. It serves the old fair site, about 10.5 km away, 13 km by road. Not walkable
    • Monorail operating hours06:00 to 21:00 only. Saturday's Doubles Mixed runs to 20:30 and Sunday ceremonies to 22:15 — plan a taxi home for late waves

    WALKABILITY

    2/10

Poor. The only genuinely walkable thing is the monorail station, roughly 10 minutes away. Do not plan on strolling out for a coffee between waves.

Highway corridor and undeveloped land. No park, no riverside path, no shops across the road. The exhibition centre's own restaurants and cafes are the only food on site, and every hotel, supermarket and pharmacy is a drive.

    🏃 RACE MORNING PLAN

Earliest waves both days are 10:00, so this is a civilised race morning by HYROX standards. Leave your hotel 2 hours 30 minutes before your start if you are in New Cairo or on the Moshir Tantawy axis; 3 hours before if you are in central Cairo, Heliopolis or Nasr City proper. Aim to be on site 90 minutes before, which is when check-in for your division opens. Lowest-stress route is the monorail to Al Moshir Tantawy then the short walk — it bypasses the traffic entirely. Expect two pinch points: the security checkpoint, which every guest passes through, and check-in itself. You must bring photo ID, you cannot check in for anyone else, and you can only check in on the day you race. To get into the hall before your check-in window opens, the official instruction is to go via the Spectators Desk with your ticket and ID.

    TRANSPORT LINKS

    BEST AIRPORT: CAIRO INTERNATIONAL (CAI)

The only realistic option, and it is close: 18 km from the venue by the official measure, 30 to 50 minutes by car depending on traffic. Terminal 3 is the largest and is the EgyptAir and Star Alliance base. Terminals 2 and 3 are linked by a walkway and a free shuttle connects all three. The Cairo Metro does not reach the airport — do not plan around it.

    Cairo International (CAI)

18 km from the venue. Uber and Careem both operate at CAI with signposted rideshare pickup zones outside each terminal, and both show a fixed fare before you confirm, so there is no meter and no negotiation. Download both before you fly — when one is surging the other frequently is not. Careem is owned by Uber but the two apps still operate separately in Egypt.

Time to venue: 30-50 min by car

    Terminal 3 note (CAI T3)

T3 is the EgyptAir and Star Alliance base and the largest terminal. T2 and T3 are connected by a walkway; a free shuttle links all three terminals. Allow extra time if your inbound and onward flights are in different terminals.

Time to venue: Same 30-50 min transfer

    PUBLIC TRANSPORT TIPS

    • The East Nile Monorail runs from Cairo Stadium in Nasr City to the New Administrative Capital — 56.5 km and 22 stations — directly along the Moshir Tantawy axis. The western section through to Cairo Stadium opened on 27 June 2026, so the full line has been carrying passengers since then.
    • Al Moshir Tantawy is the station you want: roughly 600 m from the exhibition complex, about a 10 minute walk. Cairo Stadium to Al Moshir Tantawy is 6 stops, with trains every 6 to 8 minutes.
    • Monorail fares: EGP 20 up to five stations, EGP 40 up to ten, EGP 55 up to fifteen, EGP 80 for the full line. Cairo Stadium to Al Moshir Tantawy falls in the second band.
    • Metro fares for the connecting leg: EGP 8 up to nine stations, EGP 10 up to sixteen, EGP 15 up to twenty-three, EGP 20 beyond. Cairo Stadium station connects monorail to Metro Line 3.
    • A 50 percent monorail discount has been running on Fridays, Saturdays and public holidays. Saturday 14 November is a race day, so it may apply — confirm at the station.
    • The catch: the monorail runs 06:00 to 21:00 and does not run late. Saturday's Doubles Mixed runs to 20:30, Sunday's relays finish at 20:30 and last award ceremonies are listed at 22:15. For an evening wave or a late ceremony, the monorail will not get you home.
    • Ignore the official 'Fairgrounds' Metro Line 3 instruction. That station, marked Fair Zone on maps, serves the original Cairo International Fair site next to Cairo Stadium — about 10.5 km straight line from the EIEC and closer to 13 km by road.

    🚕 Taxi / Uber / Ola

Uber and Careem are the default and both work well in Cairo. Have both installed and tested before you fly. Fares are fixed in-app, so there is no negotiation and no meter argument. White street taxis are cheaper in principle but you are negotiating, and quality and air conditioning vary. If you finish after 21:00 the monorail is closed and the entire venue will be trying to hail a car at the same moment — book ahead rather than walking out and hoping.

    🚗 Driving

The venue has direct access from the El-Moshir Tantawy Axis, a main highway, so arriving by car is straightforward in principle. HYROX has not published parking arrangements, capacity or cost for this event. Reviews of major EIEC events consistently mention heavy congestion and difficulty getting a ride-hail out afterwards. If you drive, arrive early. If you do not, do not rely on hailing a car the moment you finish.

    WHERE TO STAY

Upper mid — unverified for this weekend

Best for: The shortest possible transfer plus recovery under the same roof

Katameya Heights Road, New Cairo, and the closest well-reviewed hotel to the venue. Defy Egypt operates a recovery centre inside the hotel with cryotherapy, infrared sauna, float therapy and compression, open 09:00 to 23:00 — for a race weekend that combination is hard to beat. Honest tradeoff: it is a large hotel that hosts weddings, and Cairo weddings run late and loud, so ask for a room away from the function floors. It is also in a quiet part of New Cairo, so evenings out mean a taxi.

~2.4 km by road, 5-8 min by car
    Check availability

Low — unverified for this weekend

Best for: Staying on the venue's own road for the least money

On the Moshir Tantawy axis next to the Air Defense Stadium. Rooms are consistently described as clean and spacious, on-site food is reasonably priced and staff get good marks. Honest tradeoffs, and these are real: guests repeatedly report it is far from anything walkable with no shops or restaurants nearby, and that weddings with loud music run to midnight or later on multiple nights. Recurring notes about weak wifi and English-language gaps at reception. Bring earplugs and do not count on ordering food in.

~2.85 km by road, 6-10 min by car
    Check availability

Mid — unverified for this weekend

Best for: A quiet room within reach of real food

Ganoub El Akademeya, New Cairo. A small property in a residential area within walking distance of Cairo Festival City Mall, which is the nearest real cluster of restaurants plus a large Carrefour. Guests describe spacious, spotless, quiet rooms with breakfast served on the roof. Honest tradeoff: it is boutique or bed-and-breakfast style rather than a full hotel, so no gym, no pool and no late-night room service, and it has a relatively small review base so there is less signal to go on.

~3.7 km by road, 8-12 min by car
    Check availability

High — unverified for this weekend

Best for: Five-star facilities and travelling with family

El-Tessen Street, New Cairo. One of the highest-rated large hotels in New Cairo across a very large review base, with gym, pools, spa and an airport shuttle service. Honest tradeoff: it is the furthest of these four from the venue, so every trip is a proper drive and race morning needs a bigger buffer. Some guests report inconsistent front-desk service. If shortest transfer is your priority, this is not the pick.

~8.8 km by road, 18-25 min by car

    WHERE TO EAT

💡 Smart move: There is no walkable restaurant strip near the venue and nothing nearby opens early. The nearest cluster is Cairo Festival City Mall, about 3.4 km and 7 to 12 minutes by car, with a Carrefour open 08:00 to 23:00. For a 10:00 wave, eat at your hotel or out of your own bag — buy it the night before.

    Cairo Festival City Mall restaurants

    Athlete Pick
    Pre-race carb dinner

About 3.4 km from the venue, 7 to 12 minutes by car, and the nearest large cluster of restaurants. The most reliable place to find plain rice, pasta, grilled chicken and bread on a race weekend. There is no walkable restaurant strip near the venue, so plan to eat where you sleep or take a short taxi.

Koshari and grilled meat, anywhere local

    Athlete Pick
    Egyptian staples that work

Koshari is rice, pasta and lentils in one bowl and is close to a purpose-built pre-race meal. Grilled meat with rice and bread is available almost everywhere. Ask for sauces on the side if you are cautious about spice the night before a race. Most Cairo restaurants serve late, so a 21:00 or 22:00 finish does not leave you stranded the way it would in northern Europe.

STEPS Specialty Coffee Bar, Banks Complex

    Athlete Pick
    Coffee & breakfast

New Cairo, about 4.6 km from the venue, open from 08:00 — the nearest verified specialty option. Workable for a 10:00 wave only if you are already up and moving. Nothing opens early within walking distance of the venue, so for most athletes hotel breakfast is the right call.

    Carrefour, Cairo Festival City Mall

    Athlete Pick
    Supermarket

The nearest large supermarket, about 3.4 km, open 08:00 to 23:00 daily. Good for bananas, rice cakes, bottled water, yoghurt and anything you forgot. For 02:00 emergencies, Nasr City has 24-hour grocers including Food Land on Al Hay Al Asher and Habash Market on Ahmed El-Zomor Street, both 4 to 6 km away.

    THINGS TO DO

    Cairo Festival City Mall

    Pre-Race

A flat, air-conditioned wander and a coffee, 7 to 12 minutes from the venue. Cairo is a demanding city to move around in, and the fatigue of a Friday spent in traffic is real — keep the day before deliberately dull.

Grand Egyptian Museum and the Giza pyramids

    Post-Race

Both are on the far west side of the city: a long drive each way plus hours on your feet. A fine Thursday activity and a bad Friday one. Do this properly after you race, with a full day and a driver booked for the day rather than chaining ride-hails.

    Al-Azhar Park

    Post-Race

Worth an evening for the views across the old city and the Citadel, and the most pleasant green space in Cairo. Entry is charged, with a higher rate for foreign visitors, and it opens at 09:00 — which is also why it does not work as a race-morning shakeout.

    Spectator base at the mall

    Any Time

Between waves, Cairo Festival City Mall is the closest place to sit down, eat properly and use decent facilities. That matters more than it sounds when a supporter has a nine-hour gap between your check-in and your finish.

    RACE STRATEGY

    VENUE

A large indoor exhibition hall at the EIEC, Hall 4. No weather, no elevation, and no history — this is Egypt's first HYROX, so there is no previous Cairo course, no athlete reports and no established layout. HYROX has published the wave schedule but lists the lap count as to be announced. Do not build a pacing plan around an assumed number of laps; check the technical briefing and the event page in the final week.

    COURSE FLOW

Turns are the variable. In a hall course the lap count and turn density decide how fast it runs — a tight lap with many 180 degree turns costs far more than the same distance in a straight line. Until the layout is published, build your plan around effort rather than pace.

    RUN SURFACE

Exhibition hall flooring: hard and flat, no camber, no wind. Expect the usual consequence of hall running, which is that the surface gives you nothing back and calves take a beating over 8 km. If you have a choice of shoe, favour a little more cushioning than you would use on a track.

    HEAT

Cairo in mid-November averages a high of about 25°C and a low of about 14°C, and it is very dry. That is mild outside. Inside a busy hall with thousands of people is a different environment, and hall air conditioning at a debut event is an unknown. Assume warmer than you would like and hydrate on that basis rather than on the outdoor forecast.

    ELEVATION

Not a factor. Cairo is effectively at sea level and the race is indoors. The environmental variables here are hall temperature and dry air, not altitude.

    ⚠️ WHERE PEOPLE BLOW UP

Two predictable places at a debut race. First, going out too hard on run one because the hall is loud, the field is excited and nobody has a course record to anchor against — take the first 200 m deliberately slower than feels right. Second, the sled stations, because hall floor friction varies and an unfamiliar surface can make sleds feel heavier or lighter than in training; test the sled feel in the warm-up area if any is provided. Late waves are their own trap: Saturday's Doubles Mixed starts at 17:30 and Sunday's Doubles Men at 16:40, so you have a whole day of eating, hydration and staying off your feet to manage. Sunset in Cairo in November is around 17:00, so you will finish in the dark.

Earliest start each day is 10:00 and check-in opens 90 minutes before your division's first wave. Saturday's Doubles Mixed runs to 20:30 and Sunday's last award ceremonies are listed at 22:15 — check your wave before booking a Sunday-evening flight.

    RECOVERY SPOTS

    ICE BATHS / COLD PLUNGE

DEFY EGYPT, INSIDE TRIUMPH LUXURY HOTEL

Cryotherapy, infrared sauna, float therapy, zero-gravity massage and compression, open 09:00 to 23:00. The closest dedicated recovery facility to the venue and the strongest option in the area by review volume and rating. Book ahead — race weekend demand will be unusual for them.

📍 ~2.5 km from the venue, 5-8 min by car

Best use: Slot it a couple of hours after you finish, and reserve before you fly.

NO PUBLIC ICE BATH NEAR THE VENUE

No verified public ice bath or cold plunge facility sits close to the venue other than the cryotherapy at Defy Egypt. If cold immersion is part of your protocol, either book Defy in advance or plan a cold shower at your hotel.

    📍 n/a

Best use: Decide this before you travel rather than hunting on race day.

    SAUNAS & SPAS

    RECOVERY ZONE CENTER, NEW CAIRO

About 9.8 km, 18 to 25 minutes by car, open 11:00 to midnight. Sauna, jacuzzi, cupping and sports massage.

Best use: A Sunday-evening or Monday option — the late closing suits athletes finishing evening waves.

    ZONE SPA, NEW CAIRO

About 5.25 km, 10 to 15 minutes by car, listed as open 24 hours. Confirm by phone before travelling — 24-hour listings are not always reliable.

Best use: The fallback if you finish at 20:30 and want hands on your legs the same night.

    PHYSIOS NEAR VENUE

Evolve Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Center, New Cairo

About 4.4 km, open 10:00 to 22:00 and closed Fridays. Most New Cairo physio clinics close on Fridays, so if you arrive Thursday and want treatment before racing, book Thursday or Saturday morning rather than assuming Friday availability.

    Vigour Egypt, Banks Center Street

About 4.3 km. A small functional gym with a physiotherapy clinic on site, listed as open 24 hours — the closest combined training and treatment option to the venue.

    WEATHER STRATEGY

    MID-NOVEMBER CONDITIONS

Mid-November in Cairo averages a high of about 25°C and a low of about 14°C, with humidity around 60 percent and effectively no rain. Sunrise is around 06:15 and sunset around 17:00, so evening waves finish in the dark.

    • Standard indoor race kit — vest or singlet and shorts. There is no weather to dress for inside the hall
    • A layer for the walk from the monorail: mornings and evenings are genuinely cool, low to mid teens
    • Something warm for standing around after you finish, especially for waves that end well after dark
    • Indoor training shoes with more cushioning than a racing flat, for hard hall flooring over 8 km
    • Nothing waterproof needed — November rain in Cairo is effectively zero

    💧 Hydration

Cairo is dry, and dry air steals more fluid than you notice. Start drinking properly the day before, not on race morning. Stick to bottled water.

    🏟️ Indoor vs Outdoor

Indoors: an unknown at a debut event — assume warmer than you would like and plan hydration on that basis rather than on the 25°C outdoor forecast. Outdoors: mild by day, cool in the morning and after dark.

    SHAKEOUT RUN ROUTES

HOTEL TREADMILL, OR AN EASY OUT-AND-BACK ON NEW CAIRO COMPOUND ROADS

There is no good public running loop near this venue, and that is the truthful answer rather than an invented one. The area around the EIEC is highway corridor and undeveloped land with no park, no riverside path and no marked route. In order of preference: 1) hotel treadmill or gym — genuinely the best option here, but confirm opening hours when you book because some Cairo hotel gyms do not open early; 2) New Cairo compound roads, which are wide, quiet and well-surfaced with far less traffic than central Cairo — run out and back for an easy 20 to 30 minutes rather than trying to find a circuit; 3) Zohour Club track in New Cairo, about 13 km away and listing hours from 06:00, though access rules for non-members are not published so call first. Do not plan a shakeout along the Moshir Tantawy axis itself — it is a high-speed highway corridor.

    🏃 Parkrun

No parkrun event verified in Cairo. Do not plan around one. The nearest green spaces all fail for a race-morning shakeout anyway: Al-Azhar Park is about 15 km west and opens at 09:00, Family Park in New Cairo is 17.5 km away, opens at 09:00 and is a paid amusement park, and the International Park in Nasr City opens at 08:00 but is 8 km away and reviewers consistently describe it as poorly maintained.

    🏟️ Track Access

Zohour Club track in New Cairo is about 13 km from the venue with hours listed from 06:00. Visitor access rules are not published, so call before travelling.

There are no public toilets or water on any of these options — carry your own water and go before you leave. Avoid the highway corridor entirely, and use compound roads or a treadmill instead.

    GYMS NEAR VENUE

    FUNCTIONAL / STRENGTH

VIGOUR EGYPT, BANKS CENTER STREET, NEW CAIRO

About 4.3 km from the venue and listed as open 24 hours. A small functional gym with strong reviews and coaching, plus a physiotherapy clinic on site. The closest realistic option to the venue.

    SILVERGIANT FITNESS, NEW CAIRO

About 5.5 km. An outdoor CrossFit-style box, open 07:30 to 23:00 most days but 14:00 to 22:00 on Saturdays and 10:00 to 18:00 on Fridays. Drop-in visitors report being welcomed — check those weekend hours against your race day.

    COMMERCIAL GYMS

    Engine38, Sheikh Zayed and Dokki

Described as Egypt's first officially recognised HYROX Training Club. Both sites are on the opposite side of Cairo from the venue, roughly an hour each way in traffic. Worth knowing about, not worth the trip on race weekend.

    Cairo's functional scene generally

Concentrated in New Cairo and on the west side in Sheikh Zayed, not near the venue. Always message ahead — drop-in policies and pricing are rarely published for Cairo gyms.

    HOTEL GYMS WORTH USING

    Dusit Thani LakeView Cairo

Full five-star gym, pools and spa — the strongest hotel facilities of the four picks.

    Triumph Luxury Hotel

Hotel facilities plus the Defy Egypt recovery centre in the building, open 09:00 to 23:00.

    Seven Stays New Cairo

No gym and no pool. Boutique property — fine for mobility work in your room, not for a session.

Confirm gym opening hours when you book your hotel: some Cairo hotel gyms do not open early, and Friday and Saturday hours differ from the rest of the week because Egypt's weekend is Friday and Saturday.

    VENUE DAY TIMELINE

S-2h45 · 07:15Kit check. ID in your pocket, not your bag. Bring a layer.

    SPECTATOR GUIDE

    BEST VIEWING ZONES

    • HYROX has not published a hall plan for Cairo, but the event page confirms a Thunderdome area — the standard finish-area grandstand and the best place to watch the closing stages
    • Expect the roxzone and sled areas to be the other natural viewing points, as at every HYROX
    • Spectator tickets are sold separately and the Flex add-on is not available on them — buy them with your race entry rather than assuming availability on the day
    • Seating is not guaranteed outside the Thunderdome. Assume standing for long periods
    • Every guest passes through a security checkpoint on entry, so allow extra time and travel light

    FAMILY LOGISTICS

    • Large strollers are not permitted inside. Compact folding models only — plan for this before you arrive, not at the security gate
    • The exhibition complex has restaurants and cafes within the grounds; expect queues around wave changeovers
    • HYROX halls are loud, with music and commentary running continuously. Bring ear defenders for small children
    • Cairo Festival City Mall, 7 to 12 minutes by car, is the closest place for a proper sit-down meal and decent facilities between waves
    • Getting spectators home: monorail service ends at 21:00 and the last ceremonies are at 22:15, so arrange a car in advance

    📍 MEET-UP PLAN

Agree a fixed meeting point and a fallback time before you go in, and do not rely on phone signal inside a packed exhibition hall. A good default here is outside the hall entrance rather than inside it, given how large the complex is and how many gates it has.

    LOCAL RULES & EMERGENCY INFO

    Tipping

Customary and expected across hospitality and service. Small notes for porters, housekeeping and restaurant staff are normal. Ride-hail fares are in-app, so tipping there is optional.

    Cash vs card

Carry cash. Cards work in hotels, malls and larger restaurants, but small shops, street taxis and many local businesses are cash-first. ATMs are widely available in malls and at the airport. Uber and Careem accept international Visa and Mastercard, and many drivers prefer cash.

    Visa

Most nationalities need one. Visa on arrival is available at Cairo airport for citizens of many countries at USD 30 cash since 1 March 2026. An e-visa is available at visa2egypt.gov.eg — fees changed more than once during 2026, so check the official portal rather than a third-party site. Passport must be valid 6+ months beyond entry.

    Weekend and closures

Egypt's weekend is Friday and Saturday. Friday is the main day off and many clinics and smaller businesses close completely. Sunday is a normal working day. Malls and large supermarkets keep long hours throughout.

    Monorail hours

06:00 to 21:00 only. Saturday's Doubles Mixed runs to 20:30 and Sunday's last ceremonies are at 22:15 — any plan that assumes the monorail is running at 22:00 will fail.

    Venue rules

Photo ID required at check-in, you cannot check in for anyone else, and only on the day you race. Every guest passes a security checkpoint. Large strollers are not permitted, compact folding models only.

    Plug type

Egypt uses Types C and F at 220 V. Bring a universal adapter.

    Public holidays

No Egyptian national public holiday was identified falling on 14 or 15 November 2026, though this is unverified against the official gazette.

Hospital: Tabarak New Cairo Hospital, about 4.1 km from the venue, open 24 hours. Cleopatra Hospital New Cairo (Sky) is about 4 km, also 24 hours. Travel insurance is not required for entry, but public hospitals generally expect upfront payment or proof of cover beyond immediate stabilisation. Private hospitals are the realistic option for visitors and they will want payment or insurance details — and many standard policies exclude competitive sport, so check yours.

Pharmacy: El-Shami Pharmacy on Al Hay Al Asher is about 3.6 km and open 24 hours. Sara Pharmacy in Nasr City is about 4.5 km, 08:00 to 02:00. Golf Medical is closer at about 1.1 km but its hours are unpublished, so do not rely on it.
