TL;DR — RACE WEEKEND GAME PLAN
- 1.Four race days, Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 November 2026 at the Stockyards Event Center, National Western Center.
- 2.Navigate to 'Stockyards Event Center' by name — the 5115 Race Ct address HYROX publishes lands you at the wrong building 545 m away.
- 3.48th & Brighton on the RTD N Line is 3 minutes walk. From DEN: A Line to Union Station, change to N Line, 60 to 70 minutes.
- 4.Buy an Airport Day Pass at $10 on arrival — it covers the A Line, the N Line and the 48 bus for the rest of that day.
- 5.Stay on Brighton Boulevard in RiNo. It is the only hotel cluster with a direct bus to the venue and food within walking distance.
- 6.Altitude is the story: 1,609 m, roughly 17% less oxygen per breath. Run the first lap slower than feels correct.
- 7.Hydrate from two days out with electrolytes. Dry air plus altitude is what catches people out.
- 8.Race morning: leave the hotel 85 minutes before your wave. Registration opens 90 minutes before your division's first wave.
- 9.Nothing is open near the venue. Heady Coffee opens 06:00 in RiNo; Dio Mio opens seven days for the carb dinner.
- 10.Book Embrace North or LoDo Massage before you fly — weekend physio does not exist in this part of the city.
- 11.Do not drive up into the mountains before you race. Going higher before a race at altitude is the wrong direction.
QUICK TAKE — IS THIS A GOOD DESTINATION?
VERDICT: YES
HYROX Denver runs Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 November 2026 at the Stockyards Event Center on the National Western Center campus — four race days in a 48,000 sq ft indoor venue three minutes walk from the 48th & Brighton N Line station. The transport chain is about as clean as HYROX gets: A Line from the airport to Union Station, one stop north on the N Line, then a short walk. This suits anyone who lives above 3,000 ft, anyone treating the weekend as an experience rather than a time trial, and anyone who wants mountains an hour away. Stress Factor 4/10, PB Likelihood 3/10.
⚠️ Caveat: Altitude. Denver sits at 5,280 ft / 1,609 m, and a HYROX takes 60 minutes or more — well past the roughly two-minute threshold below which thin air stops mattering. If you live at sea level, expect this to be slower than your last one. Two other traps: HYROX publishes 5115 Race Ct as the address, which maps to the campus headquarters about 545 m from the actual event hall, and at least two third-party listing sites show the wrong venue entirely, including one that names the Colorado Convention Center 6 km away. Navigate to 'Stockyards Event Center' by name.
One train from the airport, one train to the venue, three minutes walk. Points added because this is Denver's debut event, lap counts and check-in windows are unpublished, and the venue sits in an industrial pocket with nothing around it.
Each breath at 1,609 m carries roughly 17% less oxygen than at sea level. Extrapolating from published figures of around 0.9% VO2 max reduction per 100 m above 1,100 m implies something in the region of 4 to 5% for an unacclimatised athlete. Treat that as an order of magnitude, not a promise.
FAST COURSE?
Depends. Colorado and Mountain West athletes have a real home advantage here. Everyone else is racing with less oxygen per breath than they trained on, and the lap count is still TBA.
CITY VIBE — WHAT ATHLETES NEED TO KNOW
The Stockyards Event Center sits in Elyria-Swansea, an industrial and residential pocket about 4.5 km northeast of Union Station, on the redeveloped National Western Center campus. Walkability around the venue is poor: no cafe strip, no convenience shopping, no hotel within a few minutes walk, and the nearest supermarket of any size is roughly 24 minutes away on foot. Treat the venue as somewhere you arrive at and leave, not somewhere to hang around before your wave. The city you actually spend time in is RiNo and LoDo — Brighton Boulevard's hotel cluster, Larimer Street's street art and restaurants, and Union Station, a working 1880s station with bars and food inside.
TYPICAL WEEKEND COSTS
Language: English. Currency: the US dollar. Card and mobile wallets are accepted almost everywhere including RTD, which runs contactless Tap-n-Ride. Carry a small amount of cash for tips and for the one or two cash-only markets near the venue. Tipping is expected — 18 to 22% of the pre-tax total in restaurants and bars, a tip through the app for rideshare drivers, and coffee shops will prompt on the card reader where declining is normal.
BEST BASE NEIGHBOURHOODS
RiNo / Brighton Boulevard
Best for: The race. Closest hotel cluster, direct 48 bus to the venue, food and coffee within walking distance.
Union Station / LoDo
Best for: Transport and food. One change to the venue, the widest restaurant choice, and the A Line terminates here. Adds about 10 minutes each way on race morning.
Five Points
Best for: Value. Slightly cheaper, well connected by bus, quieter in the evening.
Downtown / 16th Street
Best for: Spectators and non-racing partners. Most to do within walking distance, least convenient for the venue.
VENUE & LOCATION ANALYSIS
Stockyards Event Center, National Western Center
5004 National Western Dr, Denver, CO 80216
A 48,000 sq ft indoor space with two arenas, opened as part of the redeveloped National Western Center campus. The campus is large and the address HYROX publishes — 5115 Race Ct — points at the administrative headquarters, about 545 m and 7 minutes walk from the event hall. Type 'Stockyards Event Center' into your maps app and ignore anything a third-party listing site tells you: at least two currently show the wrong venue, one of them the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver, 6 km away. Book your hotel off the official HYROX page, not an aggregator.
NEAREST STATIONS
- 48th & Brighton at National Western Center (RTD N Line) — About 220 m, 3 minutes walk. Step-free access
- Denver Union Station (A Line, N Line, buses) — One stop south, about 8 minutes on the N Line
- Bus Route 48 — Civic Center Station up Brighton Boulevard past the RiNo hotels to the venue station
WALKABILITY
Poor. The campus itself is flat, modern and hard-surfaced with excellent restroom provision, and the rail station is 3 minutes away with step-free access. Everything beyond the campus edge is industrial.
Industrial. There is on-site food and beverage at the venue and essentially nothing in the surrounding streets — no cafe strip, no convenience shopping, and the nearest supermarket of any size roughly 24 minutes away on foot. Feed people before they come, or plan to eat at the venue.
🏃 RACE MORNING PLAN
Provisional schedule has first waves at 08:00 on all four days, and on-site registration opens 90 minutes before the first start wave of your division — so 06:30 for an 08:00 division. From a RiNo hotel: 05:45 wake and eat, 06:35 leave, 06:50 arrive with registration already open, 07:05 bag drop then warm up. That builds in about 25 minutes of slack. Add 15 more if you are staying downtown and relying on the N Line, because early-morning trains are less frequent than midday ones. Queues form at registration and bag drop in the first 30 minutes after a division's check-in opens, so arrive at the front of that window rather than the middle. Bring physical ID — HYROX will not check anyone in without it, or on someone else's behalf.
TRANSPORT LINKS
BEST AIRPORT: DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (DEN)
The only realistic option, and it happens to have one of the better airport rail links in the United States — the A Line runs from a station in the terminal to Union Station in about 37 minutes.
Denver International Airport (DEN)
A Line from Denver Airport Station to Union Station, about 37 minutes, then change to the N Line northbound. The venue stop, 48th & Brighton at National Western Center, is the first station north at about 8 minutes. Total roughly 60 to 70 minutes including the change. Buy an Airport Day Pass at $10, which covers the airport leg and then every other RTD bus and train for the rest of that service day. Taxi or rideshare is 30 to 40 minutes depending on I-70 traffic, $45 to $70.
Time to venue: 60-70 min by rail, 30-40 min by car
Denver Union Station (arriving from downtown) (RAIL)
One stop north on the N Line, about 8 minutes, then 3 minutes walk. Verified 2025 timetables showed roughly 30-minute N Line frequencies, so check current times before race morning — a 30-minute gap turns a missed train into a real problem.
Time to venue: ~11 min
Getting to the Stockyards Event Center
PUBLIC TRANSPORT TIPS
- Airport Day Pass $10 covers the airport leg plus every other RTD bus and train that service day; a standard Day Pass is $5.50 but excludes the airport
- A Line trains run about every 15 minutes through most of the day and every 30 minutes early and late
- The N Line connects Union Station to the venue in one stop, roughly every 30 minutes on verified 2025 timetables — check before race morning
- Bus Route 48 runs seven days a week from Civic Center Station up Brighton Boulevard past the RiNo hotels to the venue station, roughly every 30 minutes in the day and 60 in the evening
- RTD accepts contactless cards and mobile wallets through Tap-n-Ride, so there is no need to buy a paper ticket
- The multi-year Downtown Rail Reconstruction Project has suspended the D, H and L light rail lines but does not touch the A Line or N Line — your airport and venue journeys are unaffected
- November 2026 timetables are not yet published, so confirm frequencies in the RTD app the night before
🚕 Taxi & rideshare
Taxi and rideshare are reliable in Denver. Expect surge pricing at the end of each racing day, particularly Friday and Saturday evening when waves finish after 20:00.
🚗 Driving
There is parking on the National Western Center campus. Reviews of past events at the venue mention a $20 parking fee and road closures that made both driving and rideshare pickup awkward. If you have a hire car for the mountains, consider leaving it at the hotel on race day.
WHERE TO STAY
AC Hotel Denver RiNo
Near venue$160-260
Best for: The shortest possible race-morning journey without leaving a proper hotel
3680 Brighton Blvd. Recently opened, modern rooms, on-site bar and breakfast service, and one guest review specifically flags it as convenient for events at the National Western complex. Honest tradeoff: it is very new with only a small number of reviews, several of which mention plumbing and water-pressure teething problems. Ask for a higher floor away from Brighton Boulevard traffic.
$120-190
Best for: Value without sacrificing location or sleep quality
3560 N Brighton Blvd. Strong ratings across a large review base, free street parking noted by guests, noon checkout, a Natural Grocers directly across the road for race-week food, and Heady Coffee Co in the lobby opening 06:00 every day. Honest tradeoff: rooms are compact, breakfast is not included, and the in-room fridge is stocked for sale rather than free for your own use. Several guests mention no microwave or coffee maker in the room.
Catbird Hotel
Mid-range$150-240
Best for: Controlling your own food — rooms are extended-stay style with kitchenettes
3770 Walnut St. A kitchenette is genuinely useful the night before a race and the morning of, and there is a rooftop bar, in-room projectors and breakfast sandwiches on some rates. Honest tradeoff: rooms are small and designed around efficient use of space rather than comfort, valet parking is priced high, and at least one guest reported non-functioning blackout curtains — which matters before an 08:00 wave.
The Source Hotel
Luxury$220-380
Best for: Recovery. A rooftop pool and hot tub plus several on-site restaurants
3330 Brighton Blvd. Design-led rooms, good on-site food and strong ratings across a large review base, which turns the hotel into part of your post-race plan. Honest tradeoff: it is the furthest of these four from the venue, and reviews report inconsistent check-in times and occasional gaps between the room category booked and the room delivered. Confirm your room type on arrival rather than on the app.

WHERE TO EAT
💡 Smart move: Very little opens early near the venue. Spar Ballsbridge on Merrion Road is 24 hours and about 13 minutes on foot — that is your 06:00 breakfast. Mister Magpie at 06:30 on weekdays is the earliest real coffee. If you finish a 20:30 wave, every local kitchen is shut, so sort a supermarket backup before you race.
Dio Mio, Larimer Street
Athlete PickThe safest choice because it is open every day from 16:00 to 22:00, which matters when your race is on a Thursday or a Sunday. Pasta-focused, casual, order at the counter. About 39 minutes walk from the venue or a short ride from the RiNo hotels. Dear Emilia on Delgany Street is closer to the hotels and very good, but closed Sunday and Monday — do not build a Sunday-night plan around it.
The Greenwich, Larimer Street
Athlete PickPizza and pasta, open to 22:00 Friday and Saturday, which covers the two biggest finishing nights. Closed Monday and Tuesday. The Source Hotel's on-site restaurants are the alternative if you cannot face going far after you finish.
Heady Coffee Co, Brighton Boulevard
Athlete PickOpens 06:00 every day and sits in the Vīb Hotel lobby — for an 08:00 wave that is the only genuinely early option in the area. It closes at 11:00, so it is a morning-only play. Home Away Coffee on Blake Street opens 06:30 weekdays and 08:00 at weekends; Corvus Coffee on East 39th Avenue opens 07:00 seven days. Nothing opens early immediately next to the venue, so eat before you travel.
Natural Grocers, 3757 N Brighton Blvd
Athlete PickThe practical one, right by the RiNo hotels and about 24 minutes walk from the venue, opening around 08:30 weekdays and 09:00 Sunday. For a full shop, King Soopers at 1950 Chestnut Place near Union Station runs 07:00 to 22:00 seven days. Small corner stores near the venue in Elyria-Swansea keep short hours and several close on Sunday — do not rely on them for race-morning food.
THINGS TO DO
RiNo street art on Larimer Street
Pre-RaceFlat, free and low fatigue. The temptation in Denver is to drive up to Boulder or the Front Range the day before — going higher before a race at altitude is the wrong direction. Walk the murals, sit in a coffee shop, go back to the hotel.
Denver Union Station
Pre-RaceWorth 30 minutes if you are passing through, which you will be. A working station with bars, food and seating inside a restored 1880s building.
RiNo breweries and restaurants
Post-RaceWhere you already are, and the highest concentration of breweries and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel cluster. The Source Hotel's on-site restaurants work if you cannot face going far.
16th Street corridor and the mountains
Any TimeDowntown and 16th Street have the most for spectators while you race, and the free FreeRide shuttle runs roughly every three minutes seven days a week. The mountains are the reason to come to Colorado — but go up only after you have finished racing.
RACE STRATEGY
VENUE
HYROX lists lap counts as 'to be announced' for this event. The Stockyards Event Center is a 48,000 sq ft indoor venue with two arenas, compact by HYROX standards, and the campus has an adjoining outdoor plaza and yards. Whether the run course stays entirely indoors is unconfirmed — check the venue PDF HYROX releases in the days before the event.
COURSE FLOW
Unpublished for this edition. What is known: this is a compact indoor arena venue, and HYROX has confirmed spectator access to the Thunderdome. Treat everything here as principles rather than a course-specific plan.
RUN SURFACE
Whatever HYROX lays over the arena floor, typically carpet or matting. Grippy but slower underfoot than concrete or track. Wear the shoes you trained in.
HEAT
The venue is indoors and heated, so race in what you would race in anywhere. The clothing problem is the journey, not the race — you will be standing on an open rail platform in near-freezing air before and after.
ELEVATION
5,280 ft / 1,609 m. This is the single biggest factor in your race. Each breath carries roughly 17% less oxygen than at sea level, and research summarised by Fulco and colleagues found events under two minutes are essentially unaffected while events over two minutes see meaningful increases in completion time. A HYROX is an hour or more. Meaningful acclimatisation takes two to three weeks, which almost nobody travelling to this race will have — arriving a couple of days early lets you sleep and hydrate properly but will not change your oxygen carrying capacity.
⚠️ WHERE PEOPLE BLOW UP
Start slower than feels right: the classic Denver blow-up is a sea-level athlete running their normal opening pace and paying for it from the sled push onwards. The ergs bite hardest — SkiErg and row are where reduced oxygen delivery shows up fastest, because there is nowhere to hide and no change of movement to reset your breathing. Heart rate reads high at every intensity, so pace off feel and split times rather than HR, and budget more time in the roxzone than you normally would.

Depends. Colorado and Mountain West athletes have a genuine home advantage. For everyone else, altitude implies something in the region of a 4 to 5% reduction in VO2 max unacclimatised, so plan for slower than your last race.
Provisional schedule has first waves at 08:00 on all four days, with on-site registration opening 90 minutes before the first start wave of your division. Schedule is HYROX provisional and subject to change. Bring physical photo ID — you cannot check in without it, or on anyone else's behalf.

RECOVERY SPOTS
ICE BATHS / COLD PLUNGE
EMBRACE NORTH, 3863 STEELE ST
The best-positioned option, with multiple saunas and cold plunges. Open 05:30 to 21:15 weekdays, 06:30 to 20:30 Saturday and 07:00 to 18:00 Sunday, which covers every racing day. Book ahead.
📍 ~31 minutes from the venue
Best use: The default recovery booking for any of the four race days.
THERMA HAUS, 2520 WEWATTA WAY
Closer to Union Station, with two sauna and two plunge temperatures. It runs split hours, 08:00 to 11:00 and 16:00 to 20:00 daily, so an afternoon finish means an evening booking.
📍 ~52 minutes from the venue
Best use: Best if you are based in LoDo rather than RiNo.
SAUNAS & SPAS
THE SOURCE HOTEL ROOFTOP
Rooftop pool and hot tub plus several on-site restaurants, for guests.
Best use: The lowest-effort recovery plan if you are staying there.
EMBRACE NORTH
Multiple saunas and cold plunges, open all seven days including Sunday 07:00 to 18:00.
Best use: Contrast work the evening after you race.
PHYSIOS NEAR VENUE
The Fitness LAB, Brighton Boulevard
In RiNo, close to the hotel cluster — but weekday only.
Summit Performance Physiotherapy, Larimer Street
Strong reviews, also weekday only. No use for a Saturday or Sunday race.
LoDo Massage Studio, 3101 Walnut St
Not physio, but open seven days until around 21:00 including Sunday. The weekend fallback.
WEATHER STRATEGY
LATE-OCTOBER CONDITIONS
Denver in mid-November averages a high around 12°C / 53°F and a low around minus 3°C / 26°F. It is the second snowiest month of the year, averaging roughly 7 to 9 inches across the month, and about once a decade a November storm drops ten inches or more in a single day. It is also a month of extremes, with days into the 70s Fahrenheit and days that never get above freezing.
- Warm layer and gloves for the rail platform, in a bag you can drop
- A change of dry clothes for the trip back — not optional in this climate
- Anything with a hood, because Denver is windier than most people expect at around 15 mph average in November
- Race kit as normal: the venue is indoors and heated
- Lip balm and moisturiser for the dry air
💧 Hydration
The combination of 1,609 m and sub-40% afternoon humidity is the real risk. Start two days out, and add electrolytes rather than just drinking more water. You lose more fluid through respiration here than you are used to.
🏟️ Indoor vs Outdoor
Indoors: heated arena, race in what you would race in anywhere. Outdoors: near-freezing on an open rail platform before and after, with wind.
SHAKEOUT RUN ROUTES
SOUTH PLATTE RIVER TRAIL FROM THE RIVERFRONT OPEN SPACE, FLAT 5 KM OUT AND BACK
Start at the Riverfront Open Space at the National Western Center, 4797 National Western Dr, about 6 minutes walk from the venue, and pick up the South Platte River Trail north past the S Platte Trail Junction at Race Court and on through North Side Park. Out and back gives you a flat 5 km on paved surface. Be realistic about it: multiple recent reviews of the Race Court and Arkins Court access points describe encampments along stretches of the path. It is a functioning trail used daily by cyclists and runners, but run it in daylight, run it with a phone, and do not plan a pre-dawn shakeout here. Do not count on toilets or water either — North Side Park reviews specifically note no restroom facilities.
🏃 Parkrun
There is no parkrun in Denver. The nearest is South Boulder Creek parkrun in Boulder, roughly 30 miles away, Saturdays at 09:00 from October to May. Not practical without a car, and it clashes with Saturday race waves anyway.
🏟️ Track Access
No public track within a short distance of the venue. Not worth chasing for a race-weekend shakeout.
Flat paved trail. Daylight only, phone with you, and use the hotel before you leave because there is nothing on the route.
GYMS NEAR VENUE
FUNCTIONAL / STRENGTH
RENEGADE ATHLETICS
3863 Steele St. A CrossFit box that welcomes drop-ins, opening 05:30 weekdays and 08:00 Saturday, closed Sunday. Shares an address with Embrace North.
COLFAX STRONG
1516 Emerson St. An official HYROX Affiliate running HYROX-specific programming including a Saturday 08:00 session. Further out in Capitol Hill.
COMMERCIAL GYMS
Wynkoop Athletics
3755 Wazee St, about 26 minutes from the venue. The standout — guest reviews describe dedicated HYROX sessions and a straightforward drop-in process for visiting athletes. Open seven days, but weekend hours are only 09:00 to 12:00. Message ahead.
F45 Training RiNo
3400 Blake St. Opens 05:15 seven days if you want a class rather than open gym.
HOTEL GYMS WORTH USING
RiNo hotel gyms generally
Basic. If you want to move properly before race day, book a drop-in instead.
The Source Hotel
Rooftop pool and hot tub rather than a serious gym floor — better for recovery than for a session.
Message ahead. Wynkoop Athletics and Renegade Athletics both take drop-ins, but weekend hours are short and Sunday is thin across the board.

SPECTATOR GUIDE
BEST VIEWING ZONES
- HYROX has confirmed spectator access to the Thunderdome at this venue, described on the official event page as offering views across the racing floor
- Spectator tickets are sold separately through the event page
- Exact viewing zones and sightlines are unconfirmed until HYROX publishes the venue layout
- Getting them there is the same route as you: one stop on the N Line from Union Station, then 3 minutes walk. Buy a $5.50 Day Pass each if they are not coming from the airport
- The sled and wall ball zones give the best photographs at every HYROX; the run laps are where shouting something useful actually helps
FAMILY LOGISTICS
- The Stockyards Event Center is a modern build with fixed arena-style seating and step-down balconies onto the plaza, and reviews of the wider campus consistently praise the restroom provision
- Step-free access is available at the rail station, and the campus is flat, modern and hard-surfaced — one of the easier HYROX venues for a pram
- It is loud, as at every HYROX. Bring ear defenders for small children
- There is on-site food and beverage but almost nothing in the surrounding streets — feed people before they come or plan to eat at the venue
- Downtown and the 16th Street corridor have the most to do while you race, and the free FreeRide shuttle runs roughly every three minutes seven days a week
📍 MEET-UP PLAN
Do not arrange to meet inside. Agree the rail station platform or a specific gate number as your meeting point, and agree a fallback time. Phone signal in packed arenas is unreliable everywhere.

LOCAL RULES & EMERGENCY INFO
Navigate by name, not postcode
HYROX lists 5115 Race Ct, which maps to the National Western Center headquarters about 545 m and 7 minutes from the event hall at 5004 National Western Dr. Search 'Stockyards Event Center'.
Ignore aggregator venue listings
At least two third-party HYROX listing sites show the wrong venue, including one naming the Colorado Convention Center 6 km away. Book off the official HYROX page.
Altitude
5,280 ft / 1,609 m. Start slower than feels right, pace off feel rather than heart rate, and expect longer recovery between stations.
Hydrate from two days out
November humidity drops under 40% by early afternoon. Electrolytes, not just water.
Tipping
18 to 22% of the pre-tax total in restaurants and bars, a tip through the app for rideshare drivers. Coffee shops prompt on the card reader and declining is normal.
Cash vs card
Card and mobile wallets almost everywhere, including RTD. Carry a little cash for tips and the one or two cash-only markets near the venue.
Closures
Sunday trading is normal, but several smaller businesses in Elyria-Swansea close Sundays and most physio clinics close both weekend days. Veterans Day falls on Wednesday 11 November 2026, the day before racing — banks and government offices only.
Plug type
US Type A and B plugs at 120 V. Bring an adapter if you are travelling from outside North America.
Physical ID
Bring photo ID for check-in. HYROX will not check anyone in without it, or on someone else's behalf.
EMERGENCY INFO
911
Police, fire and ambulance
Hospital: On-site medical staff are your first call at the venue — nothing medical sits close by. Beyond that: HCA HealthONE Presbyterian St. Luke's, 2001 High St, about 5.6 km; Intermountain Health Saint Joseph Hospital, 1375 E 19th Ave, about 5.6 km; and Denver Health, 777 Bannock St, about 8.5 km, the region's main trauma centre. Pharmacy: The Tepeyac Community Health Center pharmacy is 11 minutes away but weekday only and closed both weekend days. For seven-day access use King Soopers at 1950 Chestnut Place or Safeway at 757 E 20th Ave near Union Station, roughly 65 minutes walk or a short ride. Buy the 'oh no' kit before the weekend.
