    HYROX FRANKFURT TRAVEL GUIDE 2026

Messe Frankfurt, Hall 3.1, Ludwig-Erhard-Anlage 1, 60327 Frankfurt am Main

TL;DR — RACE WEEKEND GAME PLAN

    1. 1.Stay in the Europaviertel or Westend-Süd, inside a 10-minute walk of the City entrance. The walk is worth more than any saving from staying near the airport.
    2. 2.Travel from FRA on the S8 or S9 to Hauptbahnhof, then one U4 stop to Festhalle/Messe. Skip the Messe S-Bahn station unless HYROX confirms the Torhaus entrance.
    3. 3.Do not buy the HessenTicket if you race Thursday or Friday. It is invalid before 09:00 on weekdays and your wave is at 08:00.
    4. 4.Buy breakfast and race food the night before, every night. Nothing useful opens near the Messe before 07:00, and nothing at all opens on Sunday.
    5. 5.Shakeout in Grüneburgpark or on the Mainufer between 10:00 and 15:00 — you only get eight hours of daylight.
    6. 6.Book physio for Friday if you want it. Both good options near the venue close at weekends.
    7. 7.Race morning: leave 90 minutes before your wave if you are in the Messe cluster, 110 if you are not. Bring physical photo ID.
    8. 8.Warm up properly. You are walking in from near-freezing air into a cold hall — fifteen to twenty minutes minimum.
    9. 9.Recovery: Titus Thermen the day after, or the sauna at your own hotel if you booked the Maritim or the Meliá.
    10. 10.Avoid driving, the Christmas market after 16:00 on a Saturday, and any plan that depends on shops being open on Sunday.

QUICK TAKE — IS THIS A GOOD DESTINATION?

    VERDICT: YES

Four race days at Messe Frankfurt in Hall 3.1, Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 December 2026. This suits almost everyone: a major hub airport 12 minutes by train from the city centre, a venue 1.2 km from the main station, and a dense hotel cluster within a 10-minute walk of the entrance. You can realistically do the whole weekend without a taxi. Cost level is mid to high, because race weekend sits inside the Frankfurt Christmas market season (23 November to 22 December 2026) when hotel rates are at their annual peak.

⚠️ Caveat: Two stations carry the name Messe and they sit at opposite ends of the campus — the S-Bahn station serves the Torhaus entrance in the north, the U4 station serves the City entrance in the east, and HYROX has not yet published the 2026 athlete entrance. Registration windows are also still TBC and you can only check in on the day you compete, with physical photo ID. Read your final athlete information email, which lands roughly three days out.

    Stress Factor3/10

The venue is walkable from a large number of hotels and the transit is frequent. Points added only for December darkness and Christmas market crowds on the city-centre side.

    PB Likelihood8/10

Cold outside air keeps the hall workable, Hall 3.1 is a column-free upper level with ceilings up to 15 metres, and there is no altitude or jet lag penalty for most European athletes.

    FAST COURSE?

Depends. The hall itself is good. The variable is field size — Frankfurt drew 13,191 athletes across three days in 2025 and 2026 adds a fourth day, so peak Saturday waves are where congestion risk lives.

CITY VIBE — WHAT ATHLETES NEED TO KNOW

Messe Frankfurt sits on the western edge of the city centre, wedged between the Westend, the Gallus district and the Europaviertel. It is an office and exhibition district, which means it is quiet at 06:30 and there is very little open early — the single most important planning consequence in this guide. Skyline Plaza is 6 minutes away with a food court and a supermarket, the Hauptbahnhof is one U4 stop or a 14-minute walk, and the Christmas market at the Römerberg is 10 minutes by tram. Germany's Sunday closing law shapes the whole weekend: if you race on Sunday 13 December, buy your race food on the Saturday.

    TYPICAL WEEKEND COSTS

FRA to venue, S8/S9 plus one U4 stopEUR 5-8, 30-35 min door to door
FRA to venue, taxi or pre-booked carEUR 45-70, about 15-20 min
Single city ticket / day ticketAbout EUR 4 / EUR 8
    Frankfurt Card, 1 day / 2 daysEUR 13.00 / EUR 21.00 (group EUR 26 / EUR 39)
    HessenTicket, up to 5 peopleEUR 43.50 — not valid before 09:00 Mon-Fri
    Budget hotel per nightEUR 80-150
    Mid-range hotel per nightEUR 110-200
    Luxury hotel per nightEUR 200-400

Language: German, with English spoken almost everywhere in the Messe district and the hotels. Currency: euro. Frankfurt is more card-friendly than most of Germany, but carry EUR 30 to 50 in cash — Christmas market stalls, some bakeries and smaller Imbiss counters are cash-only, and market mugs usually carry a cash deposit. Tipping is rounding up or adding 5 to 10 percent, said out loud as you hand over the card. Shops close on Sundays and public holidays by law, and on weekdays before 06:00 and after 20:00, with pharmacies, petrol stations and shops inside stations and airports exempt.

    BEST BASE NEIGHBOURHOODS

    Europaviertel (Europa-Allee)

Best for: Walk time and modern hotels. Quiet at night, thin on independent food.

    Westend-Süd (Senckenberganlage, Bockenheimer Landstraße)

Best for: A calmer, greener base with good bakeries, still under 15 minutes to the venue.

    Bahnhofsviertel (around Hauptbahnhof)

Best for: Cheapest rates and rail access. Busiest and roughest at night, so read recent reviews closely.

    Bockenheim

Best for: Supermarkets, cafés and a local feel, at the cost of 15 to 20 minutes each way.

    VENUE & LOCATION ANALYSIS

    Messe Frankfurt, Hall 3.1

    Ludwig-Erhard-Anlage 1, 60327 Frankfurt am Main

Messe Frankfurt is a large exhibition campus and Hall 3 offers around 38,000 square metres across two levels, with HYROX on the upper level, 3.1. The entrance trap matters more here than at almost any other European race: the Frankfurt (Main) Messe S-Bahn station sits at the Torhaus entrance on the north side, while the Festhalle/Messe U-Bahn station sits at the City entrance on the east side next to the Festhalle. Hall 3 connects directly to Hall 1 and the Festhalle, and Messe Frankfurt's own advice for Festhalle-side events is to use the U4 or trams 16 and 17 rather than the S-Bahn. In 2025 HYROX listed the same Hall 3.1 with a Brüsseler Straße address (Festhalle South, opposite Skyline Plaza); the 2026 listing gives Ludwig-Erhard-Anlage 1, which is the City entrance side. Both point east, away from the S-Bahn — but the athlete entrance for 2026 is still unpublished.

    NEAREST STATIONS

    • Festhalle/MesseU4, trams 16 and 17 — City entrance, about 9 minutes on foot to Hall 3
    • Frankfurt (Main) Messe (S-Bahn)S3, S4, S5, S6 — Torhaus entrance, about 6 minutes, but the wrong end for a Festhalle-side event
    • Frankfurt (Main) HauptbahnhofOne U4 stop, or about 14 minutes on foot. S8/S9 to FRA in about 12 minutes
    • Buses 32 and 33Stop directly at the City entrance

    WALKABILITY

    8/10

A dense hotel cluster within 6 to 10 minutes of the entrance and three modes of transit at the door. Marked down only because the campus itself is large and early-morning food is almost non-existent.

Skyline Plaza shopping centre is about 6 minutes on foot with a food court and a supermarket, open until 20:00 Monday to Saturday and closed Sunday. The Messeturm and Congress Center car parks are on the same block. Coffee is the weak spot — Liebesbrot on Mendelssohnstraße in the Westend opens 07:00 daily, about 9 minutes from the City entrance, and that is already too late for an 08:00 wave. Buy breakfast the night before.

    🏃 RACE MORNING PLAN

Sunrise is 08:13 on 10 December and the first waves go at 08:00, so an early wave means travelling in full darkness. Leave your hotel 90 minutes before your start if you are inside the Messe cluster and 110 minutes if you are further out — that covers check-in queueing, bag drop, finding Hall 3.1 inside a genuinely large campus, and a proper roxzone warm-up. Registration windows for 2026 are TBC and you can only check in on the day you compete. Bring physical photo ID: digital copies are not accepted and you cannot check in for a teammate.

    TRANSPORT LINKS

    BEST AIRPORT: FRANKFURT AIRPORT (FRA)

One of Europe's largest hubs, so direct flights are plentiful, and the rail link is genuinely fast — 12 minutes to Hauptbahnhof, then one U4 stop.

    Frankfurt Airport — S-Bahn (FRA)

S8 or S9 from the Regionalbahnhof under Terminal 1 to Hauptbahnhof takes about 12 minutes, running roughly every 10 to 15 minutes. Change to the U4 towards Bockenheimer Warte for one stop to Festhalle/Messe. Cost band EUR 5 to 8. If you land at Terminal 2, add about 10 minutes for the SkyLine transfer to Terminal 1.

Time to venue: 30-35 min door to door

Frankfurt Airport — taxi or pre-booked car (FRA)

Lowest stress and the obvious choice if you land late or are carrying a Doubles partner's kit. Messe Frankfurt gives about 15 minutes by car from the airport to the exhibition grounds. Cost band EUR 45 to 70.

Time to venue: 15-20 min off-peak

    PUBLIC TRANSPORT TIPS

    • Very good. U-Bahn, S-Bahn and trams all run on one RMV ticket and the venue is served by all three.
    • Buses 32 and 33 stop directly at the City entrance.
    • Buy through the RMVgo app or a station machine — a single city ticket is roughly EUR 4 and a day ticket roughly EUR 8.
    • Frankfurt Card is EUR 13.00 for one day and EUR 21.00 for two, valid across the city including the airport, with a group version at EUR 26.00 and EUR 39.00.
    • Do not buy the HessenTicket if you race Thursday or Friday: at EUR 43.50 for up to five people it is not valid before 09:00 Monday to Friday, and your wave is at 08:00.
    • Frankfurt city day tickets exclude the airport zone, so an airport journey needs the airport-inclusive fare.

    🚕 Taxi / Uber / Ola

Reliable and metered. Surge risk is concentrated in the evenings, since the Festhalle next door hosts concerts and the Christmas market pulls traffic into the centre. For a fixed-time arrival on a Saturday evening, use the U-Bahn rather than a car.

    🚗 Driving

The Messeturm and Congress Center car parks sit beside the venue, but December weekend demand plus Christmas market traffic makes this the slowest option. Rates are standard hourly, and one reviewer reported EUR 45 for six hours at the Messeturm garage (unverified). Public transport is the better call, and the whole weekend is doable without a car.

    WHERE TO STAY

EUR 150-280 per night in race week

Best for: Athletes who want recovery facilities in the same building

Indoor pool, sauna and spa, air conditioning and on-site parking across 542 rooms, attached to the Congress Center. Honest tradeoff: it is a large, dated conference hotel and reviews are mixed on room condition and breakfast quality. You are paying for the pool, the sauna and the 6-minute walk, not for the finish. Ask for a high floor away from the Theodor-Heuss-Allee side.

Theodor-Heuss-Allee 3, ~6 min walk to the City entrance
    Check availability

    EUR 80-150 per night

Best for: A predictable, quiet, cheap night before a race

Air-conditioned rooms, 24-hour front desk and a restaurant on site, scoring 8.7 on Booking.com from 1,532 reviews. Honest tradeoff: breakfast is chargeable and the choice is narrow, it sits on the Europaviertel side which is modern and short on character, and some guests have reported air conditioning faults. For a race trip that matters less than the price and the sleep.

Europa-Allee 44, ~10 min to the City entrance (7 min to Torhaus)
    Check availability

    EUR 110-200 per night

Best for: The best balance of price, walk time and room quality

Scores 8.6 from 3,122 reviews with a 9.2 location rating, directly opposite Skyline Plaza. Honest tradeoff: rooms are compact by design and there is no restaurant, only the One Lounge bar. Reviewers repeatedly flag courtyard-facing rooms as noisy because of a bar terrace below — request a street-facing or high room when you book.

Europa-Allee 25, ~8 min walk to the City entrance
    Check availability

    Meliá Frankfurt City

    Luxury

    EUR 200-400 per night

Best for: A sauna, steam room and gym without leaving the building

Spa and wellness centre, sauna, steam room, fitness centre, balconies and 430 air-conditioned rooms, scoring 8.7 from 6,248 reviews. Honest tradeoff: it is a business tower rather than a characterful stay, value-for-money is its weakest review score, the Oben skybar needs booking ahead, and beds have been described as small for the category.

Senckenberganlage 13, ~9 min walk to the City entrance

    WHERE TO EAT

💡 Smart move: Nothing useful opens near the Messe before 07:00, and German law closes shops entirely on Sunday. Buy race-morning breakfast and post-race food the night before at REWE Kuhwaldstraße 61 or Skyline Plaza — and if you race Sunday 13 December, do that shop on the Saturday.

DaVinc Cucina e Vino, Kölner Straße

    Athlete Pick
    Pre-race carb dinner

About 5 minutes from the venue and proper Italian, with gnocchi and pasta on the menu. Dinner service is 18:00 to 22:00 and it closes Sunday, so it works Wednesday through Saturday. Skyline Plaza has a food court roughly 6 minutes away for a faster, cheaper plate, open until 20:00 Monday to Saturday and closed Sunday.

    Skyline Plaza food court

    Athlete Pick
    Post-race recovery meal

The pragmatic answer if you finish on a weekday and want food fast without leaving the area, about 6 minutes away and open from 10:00 Monday to Saturday. If you finish on Saturday afternoon, the Christmas market at the Römerberg is 32 minutes on foot or 10 by tram and open to 21:00 — the better celebration option.

    Liebesbrot, Mendelssohnstraße

    Athlete Pick
    Race-morning breakfast

This is the weak spot of the whole guide. The Messe district has very little open before 07:00. Liebesbrot is a strong Westend bakery that opens 07:00 daily, about 9 minutes from the City entrance — and for an 08:00 wave even that is too late. Buy breakfast the night before, every night.

    REWE, Kuhwaldstraße 61

    Athlete Pick
    Supermarket

The nearest useful supermarket, about 16 minutes, open 07:00 to 22:00 Monday to Saturday and closed Sunday. REWE Gräfstraße 92 in Bockenheim is about 21 minutes and open to midnight Monday to Friday. The REWE inside The Squaire at Frankfurt Airport opens 07:00 to 23:00 including Sunday, which makes it the reliable arrival-day stock-up.

    THINGS TO DO

    Frankfurt Christmas market

    Pre-Race

Runs 23 November to 22 December 2026 across the Römerberg, Paulsplatz, Mainkai, Hauptwache, Roßmarkt and Friedrich-Stoltze-Platz, open 10:00 to 21:00 Monday to Saturday and 11:00 to 21:00 Sunday, free to enter. Go before 16:00 to avoid standing in crowds. Have the Apfelwein rather than the Glühwein if you are racing the next day, or neither.

Palmengarten & Senckenberg Natural History Museum

    Pre-Race

Both in the Westend within 15 minutes of the Messe, and both indoor or partly indoor, which matters in December. The lowest-fatigue way to fill the day before you race without standing in the cold.

    Sachsenhausen & the Main Tower

    Post-Race

Sachsenhausen across the river is the traditional apple wine quarter and the natural place for a proper evening. The Zeil is the main shopping street if you want to walk the legs off, and the Main Tower observation deck gives you the skyline, weather permitting.

    Mainufer riverside walk

    Any Time

About 26 minutes from the City entrance to Nizza Park, then flat, paved and well-lit riverside path in both directions. It doubles as the shakeout route and as somewhere a supporter can go between waves.

    RACE STRATEGY

    VENUE

HYROX lists the lap count for Frankfurt 2026 as TBA, along with the relay briefing and ceremony schedule. Do not build a pacing plan around a lap number until the athlete information drops, roughly three days out. What we do know: Hall 3 has around 38,000 square metres over two levels, and the upper level 3.1 is column-free with ceilings up to 15 metres and large glass frontages. The same hall hosted the 2025 edition.

    COURSE FLOW

Column-free matters. It means the run course can be laid out without the tight blind corners that slow you down in older halls. The bigger risk is station queueing, not layout: with 13,191 athletes in 2025 and a fourth day added for 2026, the busiest Saturday and Sunday singles waves are where you may wait — expect it at the sleds and at wall balls in a middle wave.

    RUN SURFACE

Exhibition hall flooring, typically hard and flat with taped or carpeted turns. Fast and unforgiving. If your calves complain on hard indoor surfaces, this is a race where cushioning beats aggressive plating.

    HEAT

A 15-metre ceiling and glass frontage in December works in your favour. Outside air will be around 4 to 6 °C, so the hall should stay more manageable than a summer race. Do not over-layer for the warm-up, but equally do not strip in the queue.

    ELEVATION

No meaningful elevation. It is a flat indoor course, so the only cost is deceleration and re-acceleration at the turns.

    ⚠️ WHERE PEOPLE BLOW UP

Two places. First, going out too hard on run 1 because the hall is cold and the legs feel good, then paying for it from the sled push onwards. Second, under-warming up — walking in from a 4 °C street into a wave 20 minutes later is not enough. Get 15 to 20 minutes of genuine warm-up in and keep layers on until close to your wave.

    Time Cutoff

Depends. The hall is good — column-free, 15-metre ceilings, flat indoor flooring and cold outside air. The variable is field size, and 2026 adds a fourth day on top of a 13,191-athlete 2025 edition.

Source: Venue, hall, race dates, transit fares, opening hours and closure rules verified from the official HYROX Frankfurt event page, Messe Frankfurt hall and arrival pages, RMV and VGF ticket pages and HYRESULT, all as of 30 August 2026. RECOVERY SPOTS

    ICE BATHS / COLD PLUNGE

    TITUS THERMEN, WALTER-MÖLLER-PLATZ 2

A large public thermal bath and sauna complex, open 09:00 to 22:00 weekdays and 10:00 to 22:00 weekends. Reviewers report entry around EUR 14 for two hours and EUR 19 to 20 for three (unverified). The best proper post-race flush in the city.

    📍 About 25 minutes by U-Bahn

Best use: A full recovery session the day after you race.

MARITIM HOTEL FRANKFURT SPA, THEODOR-HEUSS-ALLEE 3

Indoor pool, sauna and spa about 6 minutes from the venue. Access for non-guests is not guaranteed, so this is really only a plan if you are staying there.

    📍 About 6 minutes' walk

Best use: Same-day contrast work without leaving the Messe cluster.

    SAUNAS & SPAS

MELIÁ FRANKFURT CITY SPA, SENCKENBERGANLAGE 13

Sauna, steam room, fitness centre and wellness centre about 9 minutes from the City entrance. Same guest-access caveat as the Maritim — best if you are already booked in.

Best use: An evening sauna on the day you race.

    MFT WESTEND, BOCKENHEIMER LANDSTRASSE 98-100

A medical fitness centre rather than a box, about 15 minutes from the City entrance, open 06:30 to 22:00 weekdays and 08:00 to 18:00 weekends. Useful for a light flush session.

Best use: A supervised, low-intensity recovery session at the weekend.

    PHYSIOS NEAR VENUE

    Reaktiv Physiotherapie, Wilhelm-Hauff-Straße 5

Two minutes from the City entrance. Closed weekends, so book Friday.

    Sportphysio Westend, Kettenhofweg 62

About 21 minutes. Opens 07:00 Tuesday and Thursday. Closed weekends.

    WEATHER STRATEGY

    DECEMBER CONDITIONS

Expect highs of 4 to 6 °C and lows around -1 to 1 °C, with roughly 16 rain days in the month and about 74 mm of rainfall. December is Frankfurt's wettest and cloudiest month, averaging around 44 hours of sunshine across the whole month. Sunrise is around 08:14 and sunset 16:22 on race weekend.

    • Normal indoor race kit — the hall is cool but you will heat up fast
    • A warm tracksuit over race kit, plus gloves and hat for the walk from the station
    • A spare dry top and full change of dry layers in the bag drop, not in the hotel room
    • A packable waterproof shell — assume rain and treat a dry day as a bonus
    • Shoes with cushioning for hard, flat indoor flooring

    💧 Hydration

It is easy to under-drink in cold weather. Set a target before you leave the hotel rather than drinking to thirst, and do it through the day before rather than loading in the last hour.

    🏟️ Indoor vs Outdoor

All racing is indoors on a flat hall floor. Everything either side — the walk in, the check-in queue, the walk back — is outdoors at around 4 °C, in darkness before 08:13.

    SHAKEOUT RUN ROUTES

    GRÜNEBURGPARK EASY 5 KM

About 29 minutes on foot from the City entrance, or 10 minutes by U-Bahn to Holzhausenstraße. A large open park with wide gravel and paved paths, gently rolling, and you can build a comfortable 5 km inside it. The soft surface is a useful contrast to the hall flooring. It is unlit in places, so run it in daylight. The alternative is the Mainufer, about 26 minutes to Nizza Park, then flat, paved and well-lit in both directions — better for an early or late run. Toilets and water are limited on both routes in December, so go before you leave the hotel.

    🏃 Parkrun

Nidda parkrun runs every Saturday at 09:00 in the Niddapark, Am Ginnheimer Wäldchen 4, on the U1 or U9 to Niddapark or Ginnheim. Flat 5 km on two 2.5 km laps of paved paths with short woodland sections, free once you have registered and bring your barcode. Saturday 12 December has HYROX Men waves from 08:00, so this only works if you race another day.

    🏟️ Track Access

No publicly bookable outdoor track within walking distance of the venue. Use Grüneburgpark or the Mainufer instead.

Daylight is the real constraint: sunrise is around 08:14 and sunset 16:22 on race weekend, an eight-hour window. Plan shakeouts for late morning, between 10:00 and 15:00. December is Frankfurt's wettest and cloudiest month, so paths will be wet and leaf-covered in places — stick to the paved Mainufer if it has frozen overnight.

    GYMS NEAR VENUE

    FUNCTIONAL / STRENGTH

    FFM CROSSFIT, HIRTENSTRASSE 7-5

About 27 minutes on foot or 12 by transit. Open from 06:00 weekdays, 08:00 Saturday, 10:00 Sunday. One reviewer reports a EUR 20 day pass (unverified) — message ahead.

    CROSSFIT MAINBOX, BORSIGALLEE 16

Listed as an official HYROX gym. Out east, about 30 minutes by U-Bahn, open 06:30-21:30 weekdays and 10:00-15:30 weekends.

    COMMERCIAL GYMS

    MFT Westend, Bockenheimer Landstraße 98-100

About 15 minutes from the City entrance, open 06:30-22:00 weekdays and 08:00-18:00 weekends. A medical fitness centre, useful for a light flush.

    Titus Thermen, Walter-Möller-Platz 2

Not a gym, but the best pool and sauna complex within reach — about 25 minutes by U-Bahn, open to 22:00 daily.

    HOTEL GYMS WORTH USING

    Meliá Frankfurt City

Spa and wellness centre, sauna, steam room and fitness centre — the best hotel setup in this guide.

    Maritim Hotel Frankfurt

Indoor pool, sauna and spa, 6 minutes from the venue.

    Premier Inn Frankfurt Messe

No gym worth planning around. Use MFT Westend or your hotel room and a band.

Message any of these before you turn up, and remember German weekend hours are shorter than you expect.

S-0h40 · 07:20Bag drop. Keep your warm layer and a small bottle with you.
S-0h35 · 07:25Find Hall 3.1 and the roxzone. The campus is large, so budget real time for this.
S-0h25 · 07:35Warm-up. Fifteen to twenty minutes, properly — raise the heart rate, open the hips, prime the shoulders.
    S-0h05 · 07:55Layers off, into the corral.
S · 08:00RACE. Do not go out hard on run 1 just because the hall is cold and the legs feel good.

    SPECTATOR GUIDE

    BEST VIEWING ZONES

    • HYROX has not published the Hall 3.1 floor plan for 2026, so specific spectator zones are TBC
    • In a standard HYROX build the wall balls and the finish are the best value spots, since almost every athlete passes through slowly and visibly
    • The sled lanes are the second best place to watch someone actually working
    • Spectator tickets are required and sold separately from athlete entries — they are not covered by the Flex Add-On
    • If a family member podiums on a weekday the athlete gets free ceremony access via the Help Desk with ID, but additional spectators still need a ticket

    FAMILY LOGISTICS

    • Messe Frankfurt has permanent sanitary facilities throughout the halls, and the Festhalle/Messe U-Bahn station has toilets
    • The halls have catering areas, and Skyline Plaza is about 6 minutes away with a food court and more choice — remember the Sunday closure
    • Exhibition halls are flat floors, so sightlines from the back are poor. Get in early if you want a rail spot
    • It is loud, with music and commentary running continuously. Bring ear defenders for small children
    • The site is step-free and both entrances have lift access, though reviewers have flagged the Festhalle/Messe station lift as unreliable
    • The Christmas market is a 10-minute tram ride and keeps non-racing family occupied for hours between waves

    📍 MEET-UP PLAN

Do not plan to meet inside the hall — it is large, loud and crowded. Agree a fixed external point before the race, and the cleanest one is the Skyline Plaza main entrance, about 6 minutes from the venue, warm, and impossible to miss.

    LOCAL RULES & EMERGENCY INFO

    Sunday closures are the law

Shops close on Sundays and public holidays, and on weekdays before 06:00 and after 20:00. Pharmacies, petrol stations and shops inside stations and airports are exempt. If you race Sunday 13 December, buy race food on Saturday.

Do not buy the HessenTicket for a weekday wave

EUR 43.50 for up to five people across Hesse, but it is not valid before 09:00 Monday to Friday and your wave is at 08:00.

    Two stations called Messe

The S-Bahn station serves the Torhaus entrance in the north, the U4 station serves the City entrance in the east. Use the U4 or trams 16 and 17 unless HYROX confirms Torhaus.

    Photo ID is non-negotiable

Physical photo ID only — digital copies are not accepted, you can only check in on the day you compete, and you cannot check in for a teammate.

    Tipping

Round up or add 5 to 10 percent in restaurants, and say the total you want to pay as you hand over the card. Leaving coins on the table is less common than in the UK or US.

    Cash versus card

Frankfurt is more card-friendly than most of Germany, but carry EUR 30 to 50. Christmas market stalls, some bakeries and smaller Imbiss counters are cash-only, and market mugs carry a deposit.

    Insurance

UK and EU athletes should carry a GHIC or EHIC, but neither covers repatriation or private treatment. Check that your travel cover includes organised competition, which standard policies often exclude.

    Out-of-hours medical help

Hospital: Universitätsklinikum Frankfurt, Zentrale Notaufnahme, Theodor-Stern-Kai 7, 60590 Frankfurt. About 2.4 km from the venue, roughly 30 minutes on foot or 10 by taxi, open 24 hours.

Pharmacy: Schumann Apotheke at Schumannstraße 36 is closest at about 15 minutes but closes Sunday. The pharmacy in Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof's shopping level is about 18 minutes and opens 10:00 to 19:00 on Sunday — that is the one to remember. Every pharmacy posts the nearest on-duty emergency pharmacy on its door.
