TL;DR — RACE WEEKEND GAME PLAN
- 1.Stay in Pazhou for race-morning simplicity, or Zhujiang New Town if your crew wants a real city. Do not split the difference and end up with a bridge crossing in between.
- 2.Pazhou station Exit C opens directly onto the venue — about 174 m, three minutes. Xingangdong is the wrong station and third-party guides keep saying otherwise.
- 3.Fly into Baiyun and check your terminal on the boarding pass. Terminal 1 closed on 7 May 2026. From Terminal 3 take the intercity train to Pazhou, around 29 minutes.
- 4.Sort three things before you fly: visa status, Alipay or WeChat Pay linked to your card, and a roaming eSIM. None can be fixed on arrival.
- 5.First metro through Pazhou is 06:23 towards Wanshengwei. If check-in opens earlier, book a Didi the night before.
- 6.Buy race-morning food the night before. The food court opens 10:00 and the only reliable early option is the 7-Eleven inside the station.
- 7.Assume the hall is warmer than the street. Pace the first two runs conservatively and hydrate from the day before.
- 8.Shakeout the 4.9 km loop to Pazhou Pagoda and back along the river, or use the hotel gym — there is no verified box near the venue.
- 9.Recover at Chuan Spa in Langham Place, 13 minutes away, booked in advance, or cross to Tianhe for cheaper and better massage.
- 10.Avoid the street taxis touting outside the Poly complex and do not trust Google Maps. Use Didi and Amap or Apple Maps.
QUICK TAKE — IS THIS A GOOD DESTINATION?
VERDICT: YES
Two race days at the Poly World Trade Expo Center on Pazhou island, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November 2026. It suits anyone already in Asia and anyone who wants a genuinely fast indoor course with near-zero race-morning travel friction: Pazhou station Exit C opens directly onto the venue, about 174 m and roughly three minutes on foot. Cost level on the ground is low — accommodation, food and transport in Guangzhou are cheap by European or Australian standards. The flight is the expense.
⚠️ Caveat: The friction is admin, not logistics: visa status, payment apps and the fact that Google Maps does not work on Chinese networks. Sort all three before you fly and the trip is easy. Also note Baiyun Terminal 1 closed on 7 May 2026, so most published airport guidance is out of date, and HYROX still lists the schedule, lap counts and check-in windows as TBA as of 29 August 2026.
The venue and transport are close to frictionless. The points are lost entirely on pre-trip admin and on the airport, where Terminal 1 has closed and most published guidance is out of date.
Flat indoor hall, no altitude, late-November air outside around 23°C by day and dry by Guangzhou standards. The main variable is hall temperature and humidity, which HYROX has not published for this venue.
FAST COURSE?
Depends. The hall is single-level and column-free with a 9 m clear height, which points to a clean, flat layout. HYROX has not released the Guangzhou floorplan or lap count, so treat the run configuration as unknown for now.
CITY VIBE — WHAT ATHLETES NEED TO KNOW
Poly World Trade Expo Center sits on the south side of Xingang East Road on Pazhou island, in Guangzhou's exhibition district, with the Canton Fair Complex immediately east and the Zhongzhou Center tower on the other side. It opened in October 2008 and runs to roughly 66,000 sqm of rentable floor across six single-level, column-free halls at 9 m clear height, with over 2,000 parking spaces. Walkability is excellent in the way exhibition districts are walkable: wide pavements, long blocks, few pedestrian crossings and very little street life. Everything you need is inside the podium buildings rather than on the street. Cost level is low once you land — metro fares are ¥2 to ¥6 for most trips and food is cheap.
TYPICAL WEEKEND COSTS
Language: Cantonese and Mandarin, with very little English spoken outside international hotels — save the Chinese address 广州市海珠区新港东路1000号 广州保利世贸博览馆 to your phone for taxis and Amap. Currency: renminbi (yuan). Set up Alipay or WeChat Pay with a foreign Visa or Mastercard before you fly, because verification needs SMS codes to your home number. Do both if you have time; WeChat Pay is sometimes accepted more readily by small vendors in Guangdong. Cards work at large hotels and little else. Pay for the metro with the transit ride-code (乘车码) in Alipay or WeChat, or buy a physical Yangchengtong (羊城通) card at any station counter as an offline backup. Tipping is not customary and should not be attempted.
BEST BASE NEIGHBOURHOODS
Pazhou
Best for: Race logistics. Walk to the start, walk back after. Quiet, corporate, thin on evening options.
Zhujiang New Town and Tianhe
Best for: Food, coffee and anything resembling a night out, 15-25 minutes by metro. The choice if you have a support crew who want a city.
Canton Tower and west Haizhu
Best for: Sightseeing and riverside evenings, about 4.6 km west with a straightforward Line 8 or Line 3 hop back.
Yuexiu and Beijing Road
Best for: Old Guangzhou, street food and the cheapest beds, at the cost of a 25-35 minute race-morning commute.
VENUE & LOCATION ANALYSIS
Poly World Trade Expo Center
No. 1000 Xingang East Road, Haizhu District, Guangzhou 510320 (广州市海珠区新港东路1000号 广州保利世贸博览馆)
Two corrections worth knowing before you navigate. First, several third-party HYROX guides name Xingangdong as the nearest station. It is not — Xingangdong is about 1.15 km west, a 19-minute walk. Pazhou is the station you want, and Exit C opens directly onto the venue. Second, mapping tools currently hold a duplicate, mis-geocoded pin for 'Poly World Trade Center' roughly 3 km west near Modiesha; if your map drops you west of the Canton Fair Complex, you are at the wrong pin. Very little is open early. The 7-Eleven inside Pazhou station, about 152 m away, is your realistic race-morning option. The Starbucks at 1066 Xingang East Road is closer at roughly 102 m but opening hours are unconfirmed, the Starbucks in Canton Fair Complex Area B opens 08:30, and the 6,000 sqm Poly World Trade Food Plaza inside the complex opens at 10:00. Plan to eat at your hotel or from food bought the night before.
NEAREST STATIONS
- Pazhou (琶洲), Lines 8 and 11, Exit C — ~174 m, about 3 minutes. Exit C opens directly onto the venue
- Xingangdong — NOT the station you want — About 1.15 km west, a 19-minute walk. Several third-party guides get this wrong
- First trains through Pazhou — Line 8 to Wanshengwei 06:23, Line 8 to Jiaoxin 06:12, Line 11 outer loop 06:02
- Pazhou Ferry Terminal — About 1.3 km. Direct SkyPier ferry from Hong Kong International, roughly 2 hours
WALKABILITY
Exit C to the hall door is about three minutes, which is as low-stress as HYROX venues get. Points come off for the dead exhibition-district streetscape and for nothing being open before 07:00.
Exhibition district, not a neighbourhood. Wide pavements, long blocks, very little street life, and everything useful inside the podium buildings: a 6,000 sqm food court with seating for around 2,500 (opens 10:00), a Starbucks at 1066 Xingang East Road (~102 m), Greenstone Coffee (~141 m) and the 7-Eleven inside Pazhou station (~152 m). No sports shop and no pharmacy within walking distance — the nearest pharmacy cluster is in Pazhou village, 1.1 to 1.2 km east.
🏃 RACE MORNING PLAN
Staying in Pazhou: leave your room 45 minutes before your check-in window and you will be early. Staying across the river in Tianhe or Zhujiang New Town: budget 40 to 50 minutes door to door including the walk at both ends. The metro trap is the real risk — first trains at Pazhou are later than most athletes expect (06:23 towards Wanshengwei, 06:12 towards Jiaoxin, 06:02 on the Line 11 outer loop). If HYROX publishes a check-in window opening before 06:30, the metro will not get you there; book a Didi the night before. Queue points are unconfirmed, but with Exit C feeding straight in, expect the pinch at the hall doors rather than at the metro.
TRANSPORT LINKS
BEST AIRPORT: GUANGZHOU BAIYUN INTERNATIONAL (CAN)
The only sensible option, about 34 km north, and it has changed more in the last twelve months than almost any airport in Asia. Terminal 1 closed on 7 May 2026. China Southern flies from Terminal 2; nearly every other carrier, including most international airlines, uses the new Terminal 3, which opened on 30 October 2025. Check your boarding pass, not an old guide.
Baiyun International (Terminal 3) (CAN)
Walk 3 to 5 minutes down to Baiyun Airport East intercity station on level B2 of the T3 transport centre, then take the Guangzhou East Ring intercity train direct to Pazhou. Quickest run is about 29 minutes, trains average roughly every 15 minutes and no seat reservation is needed. Buy through the 12306 app, the Guangzhou Metro app, a Yangchengtong card, or at the station with your passport. There is no metro at Terminal 3: you would first take the ¥2 link bus (空港2线支线) to Gaozeng station, about 15 minutes.
Time to venue: 45-55 min
Baiyun International (Terminal 2) (CAN)
China Southern's terminal, and the only one with a metro station. Take Line 3 North Extension from Airport North to Tiyu Xilu, change to Line 3 to Kecun, then Line 8 to Pazhou, roughly ¥10 to ¥14. Note Line 3 North Extension stops running at 23:00 — after that it is a taxi.
Time to venue: 75-95 min
Getting to Poly World Trade Expo Center
PUBLIC TRANSPORT TIPS
- Metro fares are distance-based from about ¥2 to ¥14, with most city trips ¥2 to ¥6. Fast, clean and signed in English.
- Pay with the transit ride-code (乘车码) in Alipay or WeChat Pay, funded by a foreign Visa or Mastercard. Set this up before you fly.
- Tapping a foreign contactless bank card at the gate has been switched on in Guangzhou, but reports on reliability conflict — do not depend on it.
- A physical Yangchengtong (羊城通) card from any station counter is the offline backup.
- First trains through Pazhou: 06:23 towards Wanshengwei, 06:12 towards Jiaoxin, 06:02 on the Line 11 outer loop.
- The SkyPier ferry from Hong Kong International lands at Pazhou Ferry Terminal, 1.3 km away, and bypasses Hong Kong immigration entirely — published departure times conflict, so confirm directly.
🚕 Taxi / Uber / Ola
Didi is the local app and is reliable, metered and traceable. Street taxis are fine in general, but drivers outside the Poly World complex have a documented habit of refusing the meter and quoting double — use Didi and you sidestep it. Very little English is spoken, so have the Chinese address saved and book your return from inside the building rather than at the kerb. Airport fare guidance historically quoted around ¥150, but that predates the Terminal 3 move; treat ¥150 to ¥220 as the realistic band.
🚗 Driving
Foreign licences are not valid in mainland China without a temporary Chinese permit, so hiring a car is not realistic for a race weekend. If someone else is driving, the venue has more than 2,000 spaces across B2 and surface lots, approached via the Huanan Expressway (Xingang East exhibition centre exit) or Keyun Road and Pazhou Bridge. Exhibition-period rates were historically published at ¥12 per hour capped at ¥24 per day, but that figure is dated and rates are set on the day.
WHERE TO STAY
Courtyard by Marriott Guangzhou Pazhou
Near venue¥800-1,500 per night
Best for: The best all-round race base within an easy walk, with a gym and pool on site
No. 1088 Xingang East Road, Canton Fair Complex Area C. 313 rooms, a fitness centre and indoor pool, two restaurants, blackout drapes, in-room fridge and kettle, and an airport pick-up you can arrange in advance. It is the newest purpose-built hotel in the exhibition district and rates near the top of the area. Honest tradeoff: breakfast is not in the base rate, Pazhou rates spike whenever the exhibition halls are busy, and at least one recent guest reported cigarette smell — a recurring theme across this district. If raw proximity is your only criterion, the Westin below is about 200 m closer.
¥200-350 per night
Best for: Keeping the accommodation line under control without leaving walking distance
No. 97 Keyun South Road. 128 rooms in Huazhu's economy chain: buffet breakfast, air conditioning, blackout curtains, separate shower and toilet, free luggage storage and express check-in, from 14:30 with 12:00 check-out. Predictable and clean in the way Chinese economy chains reliably are. Honest tradeoff: no gym, small rooms and effectively no English. It sits south of the main exhibition strip, so the walk is through a quieter commercial block and less obvious in the dark, and breakfast start time is unconfirmed — possibly too late for an early wave.
LN Dongfang Hotel Pazhou
Mid-range¥500-800 per night
Best for: The best comfort-to-price ratio in walking distance
1136 Xingang East Road. Consistently strong recent reviews for service and cleanliness, a well-regarded breakfast with genuinely useful options, and river and Pazhou Pagoda views from the upper floors. Honest tradeoff: staff English is limited, though guests repeatedly describe them as helpful anyway, and the 16-minute walk is fine on a normal day and slightly annoying at 05:45 in the dark.
The Westin Pazhou
Luxury¥900-1,600 per night
Best for: Recovery-grade sleep, a proper gym, and the shortest walk of any full-service hotel
681 Fengpu Zhong Road. Large rooms, the brand's signature bedding, twice-daily housekeeping, a full gym and spa, reliable air conditioning and quiet rooms. Honest tradeoff: the property is not new and some rooms read as dated for the price, and the location is built for exhibition traffic rather than eating out — evenings mean the hotel restaurants, the mall by Langham Place, or a ten-minute Didi. Credible alternate in the same band: Langham Place, Guangzhou at 638 Xingang East Road, about 839 m.

WHERE TO EAT
💡 Smart move: Nothing near the venue opens early. The River Mall (Shiboyuan) under the venue runs 10:00 to 22:00 and chain coffee typically opens 07:00 to 08:00, which is after most waves start. Buy race-morning food at QUIK in Shiboyuan Zone 3 the night before — onigiri, steamed buns, bananas, boiled eggs, plain congee — and eat it in your room.
Poly World Trade Food Plaza
Athlete PickInside the venue complex, 6,000 sqm of food court with seating for around 2,500, open 10:00 to 22:00. Cantonese food is unusually well suited to the night before: congee, steamed rice rolls, wonton noodle soup and plain steamed fish, all easy to order by pointing. Avoid the heavier roast-meat and hotpot options the night before.
Roast goose, char siu and brisket noodles, Tianhe
Athlete PickThe local answer, and it hits protein and carbohydrate hard. The Poly food court is the fastest option straight out of the hall; if you want to celebrate properly, take the metro across the river to Tianhe or Zhujiang New Town, 15 to 25 minutes.
Starbucks, 1066 Xingang East Road
Athlete PickRoughly 102 m from the hall, though its opening time is unconfirmed. Greenstone Coffee is about 141 m. The Starbucks in Canton Fair Complex Area B opens 08:30 and runs to 22:30 — likely too late for an early wave. Treat hotel breakfast or a night-before shop as the real plan.
7-Eleven, inside Pazhou station
Athlete PickAbout 152 m and the practical race-morning stop: bananas, rice balls, bottled water and electrolyte drinks. For a full shop the nearest verified large supermarket is Walmart at Liying Plaza, 356 Xingang Zhong Road, about 4.7 km west — a Didi, not a walk. Chinese convenience stores carry plenty of sports drinks; imported gels and bars are much harder to find, so bring your own.
THINGS TO DO
Pazhou Pagoda
Pre-RaceA Ming-era river tower with a small park around it, about 848 m from the venue and 30 minutes end to end. Flat, short and the right amount of walking the day before.
Canton Tower
Post-Race4.6 km west and best saved for after you race — the queues and the standing will cost you more than the view is worth the day before. Pair the observation decks with a Pearl River night cruise from Tianzi Wharf, which is the standard Guangzhou evening and genuinely good.
Party Pier
Post-RaceAbout 3 km west, the riverside bar and restaurant strip, and where the post-race drinks will end up.
Shamian Island, Yuexiu Park and the Guangdong Museum
Any TimeFor spectators with a spare afternoon: colonial architecture and quiet streets on Shamian, the city's oldest green space at Yuexiu, and the Guangdong Museum in Zhujiang New Town. All a straightforward metro ride, none require booking.
RACE STRATEGY
VENUE
What is confirmed: the hall is single-level, column-free, with a 9 m clear ceiling. That combination usually means a flat, unobstructed run course with wide turns and no ramps or stairs. HYROX has not published the Guangzhou floorplan, run configuration or lap count, all still marked TBA as of 29 August 2026. Do not plan splits around an assumed lap count.
COURSE FLOW
Column-free halls let organisers lay a long, open running loop rather than threading it round pillars, which usually means fewer blind corners and cheaper overtaking. With the lap count unpublished, treat that as a reasonable expectation rather than a plan.
RUN SURFACE
Unconfirmed. Exhibition halls of this type are typically polished or sealed concrete, often with temporary carpet or matting laid over the run lanes. Pack a shoe you trust on both.
HEAT
This is the variable that will decide your day. Outside temperatures in late November sit around 23°C with humidity near 70%, which is mild. Inside a packed exhibition hall with lighting rigs and no published climate control spec, expect it to feel considerably warmer. Guangzhou is subtropical and locals will be acclimatised in a way that visitors from a northern winter will not. Plan the first two runs conservatively and hydrate harder than you would at a European race.
ELEVATION
Flat throughout, indoors and out. Nothing in the surrounding area affects a warm-up jog.
⚠️ WHERE PEOPLE BLOW UP
With an unconfirmed layout the Guangzhou-specific risk is heat, not terrain. The two classic errors are going out at goal pace on run one because the course feels flat and fast, and underdrinking on the morning because the outdoor temperature felt comfortable.

RECOVERY SPOTS
ICE BATHS / COLD PLUNGE
NO CONFIRMED COLD PLUNGE NEAR THE VENUE
No dedicated athlete recovery centre or cold-plunge facility has been verified within walking distance of the venue. The realistic options are a hotel spa or a hotel bathtub with ice bought from the convenience store.
📍 n/a
Best use: Ask your hotel directly at booking rather than assuming.
CHUAN SPA, LANGHAM PLACE
638 Xingang East Road, the closest verified full spa at roughly 839 m. Sauna, steam and treatment rooms. Book ahead — race weekend will not be the only demand on it.
📍 ~839 m, 13-min walk
Best use: The practical recovery booking for the night you finish.
SAUNAS & SPAS
CHUAN SPA, LANGHAM PLACE GUANGZHOU
638 Xingang East Road, about 13 minutes on foot. The only verified full spa in walking distance of the hall.
Best use: Book before you land rather than hunting for a slot on tired legs.
HOTEL SPAS AT THE WESTIN AND COURTYARD
Both picks have in-house facilities; the Westin has a full gym and spa and the Courtyard has a fitness centre and indoor pool.
Best use: Confirm facilities at booking if heat work or a pool matters to your protocol.
PHYSIOS NEAR VENUE
Guangzhou United Family Hospital
No. 31 Pazhou Avenue, about 3.1 km from the venue. Has a rehabilitation department and operates in English, which is the sensible route for anything beyond soreness. 24-hour urgent care (020) 3610 2333.
No English-speaking sports physio verified in Pazhou
Nothing dedicated to sports rehab has been verified in the exhibition district. Treat Tianhe massage as recovery, not treatment.
WEATHER STRATEGY
LATE OCTOBER CONDITIONS
Late November is the drier, cooler end of the month. Expect daytime highs around 23 to 25°C, overnight lows around 14 to 16°C, humidity near 66 to 70%, and roughly 35 mm of rain spread across the whole month. Sunrise falls around 06:50 and sunset around 17:40.
- Normal indoor race kit — assume the hall is warmer than the street
- A light long-sleeve layer and tracksuit bottoms for the walk over and the warm-up area
- A dry top for immediately after
- A packable shell for the low-probability wet plan — the walk from Exit C is short
- Nothing heavy. The 9°C day-to-night swing is what people underpack for, not cold
💧 Hydration
Start hydrating the day before, not the morning of. If the hall runs warm, take fluid at every aid station from lap three rather than banking it for the end.
🏟️ Indoor vs Outdoor
Outside is mild at around 23°C and 70% humidity. Inside a packed hall with lighting rigs and no published climate spec, expect considerably warmer. If you are flying in from a northern November you are arriving unacclimatised into a warm room.
SHAKEOUT RUN ROUTES
EASY 4.9 KM — PAZHOU PAGODA AND THE RIVERFRONT
Venue to Pazhou Pagoda, north to the riverfront near Pazhou Ferry Terminal, then west and back along Xingang East Road, roughly 4.9 km. Pavement throughout, flat, well lit and safe — Pazhou is a low-crime business district. The catches: several large road crossings on Xingang East Road, and continuous riverside pedestrian access has not been verified end to end, so treat the northern section as a route to scout rather than trust. Water and toilets are at the 7-Eleven in Pazhou station and inside hotel lobbies, not on the loop.
🏃 Parkrun
No parkrun event has been verified in the Pazhou area or in Guangzhou. Check parkrun.com directly if this matters to you.
🏟️ Track Access
No publicly bookable athletics track has been verified in the Pazhou area. Sunrise is around 06:50 and sunset around 17:40 in late November, so an early shakeout starts in the dark.
Hard pavement, flat and well lit, in a quiet business district. The hazards are the road crossings on Xingang East Road and the unverified riverside section, not the surface.
GYMS NEAR VENUE
FUNCTIONAL / STRENGTH
NO VERIFIED FUNCTIONAL-FITNESS BOX IN PAZHOU
No HYROX-affiliated training club and no box with a walk-in day pass has been verified within walking distance of the venue. Check the official HYROX training club finder close to your travel dates — the Chinese affiliate network is expanding quickly.
HYROX TRAINING CLUB FINDER
hyrox-training-finder.hyrox.com is the only reliable source for Guangzhou, and it is worth rechecking in the fortnight before you fly rather than trusting anything written in August.
COMMERCIAL GYMS
Nothing verified near the venue
The exhibition district has no confirmed commercial gym selling single sessions to walk-ins.
Decathlon, Liwan and Tianhe
Not a gym, but the nearest place to replace kit before a session, 25 to 40 minutes by metro.
HOTEL GYMS WORTH USING
The Westin Pazhou
Full gym and spa, 518 m from the hall. The strongest in-house facility of the picks.
Courtyard by Marriott Guangzhou Pazhou
Fitness centre and indoor pool, 712 m away. Langham Place also has a gym at about 839 m.
Chinese gyms often do not sell single sessions to walk-ins and may require a WeChat booking. Your practical options are the hotel gyms at the Westin, Langham Place or Courtyard, all adequate for a shakeout — have the front desk call ahead if you want anything else.
ESSENTIALS — RACE WEEKEND OPS
SUPERMARKETS
7-Eleven
Inside Pazhou station
About 152 m. The realistic race-morning option: bananas, rice balls, water, electrolyte drinks.
Walmart
Liying Plaza, 356 Xingang Zhong Road
About 4.7 km west. The nearest verified large supermarket — a Didi rather than a walk.
Poly World Trade Food Plaza
Inside the venue complex
6,000 sqm food court, seating for around 2,500, open 10:00 to 22:00. No use before a morning wave.
PHARMACIES
Baikang Pharmacy (柏康药店)
Pazhou village, roughly 1.1-1.2 km east
Hours unconfirmed. Stocks painkillers, blister care and tape; branded Western products are hit and miss.
Jihetang (济和堂药业连锁)
Pazhou village, roughly 1.2 km east
Same cluster, same caveats. Nothing verified closer to the hall.
SPORTS SHOPS
No sports shop within walking distance
Nothing has been verified in Pazhou. Buy kit before you fly.
Decathlon, Liwan and Tianhe
The nearest verified branches, both 25 to 40 minutes away by metro. Fine for socks or tape if you have a spare afternoon, useless on race morning.

SPECTATOR GUIDE
BEST VIEWING ZONES
- HYROX has confirmed a Thunderdome for this event — the elevated central viewing area that lets spectators watch the whole floor
- There is also an entertainment zone with partner activations
- Specific viewing zones and seating have not been published for Guangzhou
- Spectator tickets are sold separately from athlete entry — buy them at the same time as your race entry
- Flex and Lite Flex are not available on spectator tickets, so they cannot be refunded or name-changed
FAMILY LOGISTICS
- Exhibition halls of this class have plentiful toilets, lifts and step-free access
- The on-site 6,000 sqm food court seats around 2,500, so food and a sit-down are not a problem — it opens at 10:00
- Pram access via Exit C should be straightforward given the direct connection, though one reviewer describes the wider complex as awkward for accessibility
- Expect the hall to be loud — bring ear defenders for small children
- Supporters need their own working data connection and a payment app before they land, or they cannot buy a metro ticket, order a taxi or message you
📍 MEET-UP PLAN
Do not agree to meet at 'the entrance' — the complex has multiple podium entrances across six halls. Agree on Pazhou station Exit C, or the Starbucks at 1066 Xingang East Road. Both are unambiguous and outside the crowd.

LOCAL RULES & EMERGENCY INFO
Visa
China's unilateral 30-day visa-free policy covers around 50 countries and runs through 31 December 2026, so it applies to this race weekend. The UK and Canada were added on 17 February 2026. The US is not on the 30-day list; US passport holders can use the separate 240-hour visa-free transit policy, for which Guangzhou is an approved port, provided they hold an onward ticket to a third country. Country counts vary between sources — check the National Immigration Administration list against your own passport before booking.
Payment
Cash is legal but awkward.
Internet
Google including Maps, plus WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook, is blocked on Chinese networks including hotel wifi. A roaming travel eSIM routes your data out through a foreign gateway and is the more dependable fix in 2026, since VPN reliability dropped after an April 2026 crackdown. Apple Maps works natively in China with no VPN if your phone region is set outside China. On Android, install Amap or Baidu Maps before you leave. And ignore the duplicate 'Poly World Trade Center' pin near Modiesha, 3 km west of the real venue.
Tipping
Not customary in mainland China and not expected anywhere you will go. Do not do it.
Opening hours
Nothing closes for Sundays. The genuine constraint is the early morning: the food court opens 10:00, Canton Fair Complex Starbucks 08:30, and the 7-Eleven in Pazhou station is your only reliable early option.
Public holidays
21 to 22 November 2026 does not fall on a Chinese public holiday. The autumn Canton Fair normally runs mid-October to early November, so race weekend should fall outside the peak hotel pricing window — worth confirming before you commit.

Hospital: Guangzhou United Family Hospital, No. 31 Pazhou Avenue, Haizhu District, is the nearest English-first private hospital with a 24-hour emergency department, about 3.1 km from the venue and roughly 10 minutes by taxi. 24-hour urgent care: (020) 3610 2333. 24-hour service centre: 4008-919191. For public care, Guangdong No. 2 People's Hospital at 1 Shiliugang Road is about 3.5 km away; public hospitals expect payment upfront, so keep receipts for your insurer. Emergency numbers are free from any phone including a foreign SIM, but operators work in Mandarin and English support is not reliable — hand the phone to a local or ask your hotel front desk to call.
Pharmacy: The nearest verified pharmacy cluster is in Pazhou village, roughly 1.1 to 1.2 km east, including Baikang Pharmacy (柏康药店) and Jihetang (济和堂药业连锁). Hours are unconfirmed and branded Western products are hit and miss, so bring your own basics.
