TL;DR — RACE WEEKEND GAME PLAN
- 1.Stay within a 6-minute walk. The Hyatt Place, Omni and JW Marriott are all inside 425 m, and the money you save staying further out you spend twice over in race-morning stress and parking.
- 2.Skip the hire car. Everything here except the hospital and two recovery venues is walkable, parking is $15 to $45 a day and there is no in-and-out.
- 3.Get from BNA on Route 18 for $2 if you land in daylight with light bags, or take a rideshare if you land late or have a Doubles partner's kit with you.
- 4.Eat your carb dinner at 16:30, not 20:00. The Italian places near the venue open at 16:00 or 16:30 and you want a long gap before an 08:00 wave.
- 5.Do your shakeout on the riverfront loop, in daylight if possible and with a reflective layer if not. It is 4.1 km, flat and paved.
- 6.Work back 20 minutes from your check-in window, not your start time. Registration opens 90 minutes before your division's first wave and photo ID is mandatory.
- 7.Dress for the hall, not the street. Walk over in a layer you can strip, because the hall will be warmer and stiller than you expect.
- 8.Book recovery before you fly. Restore Hyper Wellness is one of the few options open both Saturday and Sunday, and race weekend will fill it.
- 9.Avoid Lower Broadway before you race, and skip the hot chicken until afterwards. Both are much better once you have finished.
- 10.Re-check the event page in race week for lap count, race-day registration times and the ceremony schedule, all of which HYROX still lists as To Be Announced.
QUICK TAKE — IS THIS A GOOD DESTINATION?
VERDICT: YES
Five race days at Music City Center, Wednesday 9 to Sunday 13 December 2026, covering Open, Pro, Doubles, Relay and Adaptive. Almost any division and any ability level has a slot, and first-timers get quieter weekday waves. Cost level is mid to high for a US race — downtown hotel rates are not cheap and parking is expensive — but the venue is walkable from most of downtown, so you can skip transport costs entirely. Travel friction is low: one airport, a short transfer, and hotels within a five-minute walk.
⚠️ Caveat: The five-day schedule is the main trap: it is genuinely easy to misread your own race day. HYROX also still lists the lap count, race-day registration times and the ceremony schedule for Nashville as To Be Announced, so do not plan pacing around an assumed lap map. Registration opens 90 minutes before the first wave of your division and you must bring photo ID — nobody can check in on your behalf.
Single venue, single entrance, garage attached and hotels inside a five-minute walk. Points added only for a five-day schedule and a long internal walk once you are through the door.
Near sea level, climate-controlled hall, flat concrete run course and a December date that removes heat entirely. The limiters are travel fatigue and hall congestion, not the environment.
FAST COURSE?
Yes. Indoor, flat and temperature-controlled — about as good as HYROX conditions get. If you race in a plated shoe you will get the benefit.
CITY VIBE — WHAT ATHLETES NEED TO KNOW
Downtown Nashville is unusually convenient for a HYROX venue. Five hotels sit within a 6-minute walk of Music City Center, and coffee, a supermarket, a pharmacy and a gym are all inside 15 minutes. You do not need a car and you do not need transit. Your real decision is which cluster you sit in: SoBro beside the venue, the downtown core and 5th & Broadway for food and spectators, The Gulch for value plus atmosphere, or Music Row and Midtown for the lowest cost. Everything is card-friendly, and Nashville's 9.75 percent sales tax is added at the register.
TYPICAL WEEKEND COSTS
Language: English. Currency: US dollar, and card works everywhere. The one exception is WeGo buses, which take contactless cards and mobile wallets — but not American Express — and otherwise want exact cash. Tipping is 18 to 20 percent at sit-down restaurants and bars, plus a few dollars for hotel valet or bag handling. Combined sales tax is 9.75 percent and is not included in displayed prices, so a $12 menu item costs $13.17 before tip. There are no US public holidays between 9 and 13 December 2026.
BEST BASE NEIGHBOURHOODS
SoBro (South of Broadway)
Best for: The shortest walk. The venue, the Omni, the JW Marriott and the garage are all here, and it is quiet at night by downtown standards.
Downtown Core and 5th & Broadway
Best for: Food options and spectators. Assembly Food Hall and most of the coffee is here, 5 to 12 minutes from the venue.
The Gulch
Best for: Value plus atmosphere — restaurants and the Turnip Truck market, 14 to 20 minutes' walk, with cheaper rooms than SoBro.
Music Row and Midtown
Best for: Lowest cost, around 20 minutes' walk or a short rideshare, and the quietest of the four at night.
VENUE & LOCATION ANALYSIS
Music City Center
201 Rep. John Lewis Way S, Nashville, TN 37203
Music City Center sits in SoBro, the block of downtown south of Broadway. The main entrance is on Rep. John Lewis Way S, directly opposite the Country Music Hall of Fame and about 3 minutes' walk from Bridgestone Arena. The building is large — the exhibit hall runs to roughly 353,000 square feet — so expect a long internal walk from the entrance to whichever hall HYROX occupies. Budget 5 to 10 minutes inside the building on top of your street-level walk time. On-site registration opens 90 minutes before the first start wave of your division and photo ID is mandatory. To get into the hall outside your check-in window, HYROX directs you to the Spectators Desk with your ticket and ID.
NEAREST STATIONS
- Elizabeth Duff Transit Center at WeGo Central — 400 Dr. M.L.K. Jr Blvd — Route 18 airport bus terminus, about 1.26 km / 16 minutes' walk
- Riverfront Station — WeGo Star rail and bus, about 10 minutes' walk
- Nashville International (BNA) — About 12.6 km by road — Route 18 express about 20 minutes
- Music City Center garage — 701 Demonbreun St, 1,800 spaces, about 3 minutes' walk to the main entrance
WALKABILITY
The strongest thing about Nashville as a HYROX venue. Five hotels within a 6-minute walk, and coffee, a supermarket, a pharmacy and a gym all inside 15 minutes. No car, no transit.
Fresh Pick Market and Café at 707 Demonbreun St, on the west side of the Music City Center building itself, opens 06:00 Monday to Friday and 07:00 at weekends — about 4 minutes from the main entrance and the only reliable pre-06:30 food option nearby. Drug Store Coffee at 200 4th Ave N also opens 06:00 daily, about 11 minutes away. Savi Urban Market at 415 Church St is the closest full grocery at 10 minutes.
🏃 RACE MORNING PLAN
Stay inside a 10-minute walk and go on foot. Leave your hotel 20 minutes before your check-in window opens — that covers the street walk, the building walk, bag drop and a toilet queue with margin. For an 08:00 division open, registration is from roughly 06:30, and sunrise is 06:46 to 06:49, so you will be walking in the dark and in near-freezing air. Downtown is well lit on the Broadway side but quiet in SoBro at that hour, so walk in a group if you can. Do not plan a car journey on the Saturday: Bridgestone Arena is 3 minutes away and event traffic on that block is unpredictable.
TRANSPORT LINKS
BEST AIRPORT: NASHVILLE INTERNATIONAL (BNA)
The only sensible option and it is close — about 12.6 km by road to the venue, with a $2 bus, a flat-rate taxi and a 20 to 30 minute rideshare all available.
Nashville International — WeGo Route 18 (BNA)
$2 each way. Board at the BNA Ground Transportation Center on Level 1 of the Terminal 2 Garage, following signs from baggage claim to the purple WeGo stop. Runs to WeGo Central downtown, then a 16-minute walk. Luggage allowed. Pay by QuickTicket, contactless or exact cash — no American Express. Each tap buys a 2-hour pass.
Time to venue: 20 min express, 35-45 min local
Nashville International — rideshare or taxi (BNA)
Fastest and lowest stress. Uber and Lyft work from the designated rideshare zone in the parking garage, and taxis run a published flat rate to the downtown hotel district — roughly $25 to $35, with app quotes that can exceed that during events and late weekend nights.
Time to venue: 20-30 min off-peak
Getting to Music City Center
PUBLIC TRANSPORT TIPS
- WeGo is functional rather than good: Route 18 from the airport is reliable and cheap, but frequencies are modest and it does not run late at night.
- If your flight lands after about 22:30, plan on a rideshare rather than the bus.
- WeGo Central at 400 Dr. M.L.K. Jr Blvd is the Route 18 terminus, about 16 minutes' walk from the venue.
- Riverfront Station is about 10 minutes' walk and serves WeGo Star rail and local buses.
- Buses take contactless cards and mobile wallets but not American Express, and otherwise want exact cash.
- Check the WeGo timetable for December 2026 closer to the date before you build a plan around it.
🚕 Taxi / Uber / Ola
Nashville is a bachelorette and live-music city, so Friday and Saturday nights downtown produce real rideshare surge — and race weekend adds a convention on top. If you need to be somewhere at a fixed time on a Friday or Saturday evening, walk or leave early. Taxis from BNA run a published flat rate to the downtown hotel district, which is often cheaper than a surging app quote.
🚗 Driving
The Music City Center garage is at 701 Demonbreun St, with primary access (P3) at 7th Avenue and Demonbreun Street and auxiliary access (P1 and P2) along 6th Avenue. Published rates from 2 June 2025: 0-5 hours $15, 5-9 hours $20, 9-12 hours $25, 12-18 hours $30, overnight $45, lost ticket $45. There is no in-and-out on the same ticket, which matters if you plan to return to your hotel between check-in and your wave. Special event rates may apply and are posted at the entrance. Twelve ChargePoint EV bays are spread across the three levels. Hotel valet downtown typically runs $55 to $82 per night, so the venue garage is usually the cheaper option.
WHERE TO STAY
Omni Nashville Hotel
Near venue$250-$400 per night
Best for: Rolling out of bed and being at check-in inside five minutes
24-hour fitness centre, 24-hour reception, a heated rooftop pool open year-round, an on-site spa and five restaurants including a grab-and-go option, with air conditioning and heating in all rooms. Honest tradeoff: it is the convention hotel, so the lobby will be full of HYROX athletes and the lifts will be slow at 06:30. Parking is valet-only and expensive, rooms facing Rep. John Lewis Way get street noise, and breakfast is charged separately with a long 06:30 queue — plan to eat elsewhere or in your room.
$90-$160 per night
Best for: Keeping the trip under control on cost without leaving walking range
Free hot breakfast with an omelette station, a microwave and small fridge in every room, an on-site fitness centre, and a 12:00 noon checkout that is genuinely useful if you race a morning wave and want a shower afterwards. Honest tradeoff: it is dated and reviews are inconsistent on housekeeping and front-of-house. Twenty minutes each way is 40 minutes of walking on race day, the pool is outdoors and useless in December, and the walk back from an evening wave at 21:00 is long and dark.
Hyatt Place Nashville Downtown
Mid-range$160-$300 per night
Best for: The balance point — close, predictable, and food at any hour
24-hour fitness centre, indoor pool, 24-hour dining and a grab-and-go market, small fridge in room and a sofa bed, with free breakfast for World of Hyatt members. Honest tradeoff: it sits in South Broadway a block from the river and a short walk from the honky-tonks, so Friday and Saturday nights are audible in street-facing rooms — ask for a high floor away from 3rd Avenue. Valet starts around $65 and self-parking around $52 per night, so do not drive here.
JW Marriott Nashville
Luxury$320-$600 per night
Best for: A proper trip with a gym you would actually train in
24-hour fitness centre with Peloton bikes and resistance machines, a spa, a rooftop pool and three restaurants. Honest tradeoff: a $300 damage deposit is taken on arrival by credit card and released after checkout, which matters on a tight card limit. Breakfast is not included, guests on high floors report significant street noise so the view floors are not automatically the quiet ones, and valet is around $55 per night.

WHERE TO EAT
💡 Smart move: There is nothing at Nasrec itself, and the earliest supermarket near the venue opens at 07:00. Buy race-morning breakfast and post-race recovery food the day before at SUPERSPAR Xavier in Ormonde or Woolworths at Southgate Mall — Southgate shuts at 17:00 on both Saturday and Sunday, so a late wave means everything is closed when you finish.
Trattoria Il Mulino
Athlete Pick144 Rep. John Lewis Way S, about 3 minutes from the venue and open from 16:30 daily. Villa Castrioti at 300 Commerce St is 9 minutes away and opens 16:00, and Culaccino at 900 Commerce St opens 11:00 and runs through the afternoon, which suits an early dinner before an evening wave. All three are straightforward Italian, which is what you want the night before. Eat at 16:30, not 20:00, if you have an 08:00 wave.
Assembly Food Hall
Athlete PickAt 5th & Broadway, 6 minutes away, open to 22:00 Sunday to Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday. Multiple vendors under one roof means a Doubles team, a spectator and a vegan can all eat at the same table without a compromise — and Hattie B's hot chicken is inside it. Pinewood at 33 Peabody St, 14 minutes away, is a sit-down option open to 22:00. A warning: hot chicken is excellent and a genuinely bad idea within 24 hours of racing. Save it for after.
Fresh Pick Market and Café
Athlete Pick707 Demonbreun St, attached to the Music City Center building, opening 06:00 on weekdays and 07:00 at weekends — the single most useful food address in this guide for an early wave. Drug Store Coffee at 200 4th Ave N also opens 06:00 daily, 11 minutes away. Crema Coffee Roasters at 15 Hermitage Ave opens 06:30 weekdays and 07:00 weekends, 12 minutes away, and Frothy Monkey at 235 Rep. John Lewis Way N opens 07:00 daily with a full breakfast.
Savi Urban Market, 415 Church St
Athlete PickThe closest full grocery at about 10 minutes, open 06:30 to 22:00 on weekdays and from 08:00 at weekends. Whole Foods Market at 1202 Broadway is 15 minutes and open 08:00 to 22:00 daily. Turnip Truck Natural Market at 321 12th Ave S is 14 minutes, open 07:00 to 21:00 daily, and has the best range of single-serve recovery food.
THINGS TO DO
Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum
Pre-Race222 Rep. John Lewis Way S, 3 minutes from the venue and open 09:00 to 17:00 daily. Indoors, seated where you want it to be, and it takes as long as you let it — the best low-fatigue option the day before you race.
Nashville Music Garden & Music City Walk of Fame
Pre-Race400 Demonbreun St, a 3-minute walk and about 15 minutes of your time, which is roughly the right dose of sightseeing the day before a race. It also makes the clearest post-race meet-up point, since it is outdoors and unmistakable.
Lower Broadway
Post-Race5 minutes away, loud, and it goes late. Standing on concrete in a honky-tonk for three hours is a genuinely poor pre-race decision — it will still be there on Sunday. Afterwards, go properly: Assembly Food Hall has live music and a rooftop, and Pinewood at 33 Peabody St has food, drinks and a bowling alley.
John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge & riverfront
Any TimeSkyline views from the bridge and a paved riverside path north through Riverfront Park, all within 12 minutes of the venue. It doubles as the shakeout route and as somewhere a supporter can go between waves and still be back for your wave.
RACE STRATEGY
VENUE
HYROX has published "Laps to run: To Be Announced" for Nashville, so do not plan a pacing strategy around an assumed lap count. Check the event page in the week before your race and again at the technical briefing.
COURSE FLOW
Nashville is a five-day event with large fields on Saturday and Sunday. The Saturday HYROX MEN block runs 08:00 to 12:30 and the Doubles Mixed block 13:00 to 17:20, which are long windows implying a lot of waves. Expect traffic at the sleds and at wall balls in a middle wave. The two places people lose the most time are queuing behind a slow sled lane and going out too hard on run 1 because the hall is wide open and empty at the start.
RUN SURFACE
Convention centre exhibit hall, so sealed concrete under carpet or matting. Flat, fast and unforgiving — concrete at 8 km punishes thin racing flats more than a sprung track would. If you are between two shoe options, take the one with more stack.
HEAT
Counterintuitively, the risk in December is overheating, not cold. The hall is heated, the roxzone is enclosed and there is no airflow. Athletes who dress for the walk over and keep a layer on for the warm-up routinely start too hot. Strip down properly before your wave.
ELEVATION
No elevation to worry about. What there is instead is corners: convention hall run courses are built from long straights and tight turns, and the time you lose is in deceleration and re-acceleration at each cone, plus the cumulative load on your outside leg. Practise turning without braking hard.
⚠️ WHERE PEOPLE BLOW UP
Runs 4 through 6, after the burpee broad jumps and rowing. In a flat indoor race with no environmental limiter, the temptation is to treat the first half as a time trial. The athletes who PB in convention halls run the first 4 km 10 to 15 seconds per kilometre slower than they think they can.

RECOVERY SPOTS
ICE BATHS / COLD PLUNGE
RESTORE HYPER WELLNESS MUSIC ROW, 117 17TH AVE S
Cryotherapy, infrared sauna, red light, compression and IV therapy. Open Saturday 09:00 to 17:00 and Sunday 11:00 to 16:00, which makes it one of the few weekend-viable options in the city. Book ahead for race weekend.
📍 About 24 minutes' walk or a short rideshare
Best use: Same-day post-race compression and cryo.
BC BLOCK, 513 MERRITT AVE
Describes itself as an official HYROX affiliate, with cold plunges, saunas, a recovery suite and a floor laid out to mimic a full race. The affiliate claim comes from the gym's own site rather than HYROX, so treat it as unverified.
📍 About 36 minutes' walk — treat it as a rideshare
Best use: A proper shakeout or a full recovery session if you are in town for several days.
SAUNAS & SPAS
CROSSFIT EAST NASHVILLE, 400 DAVIDSON ST
Listed as a HYROX-affiliated training partner by a third-party directory, with a sauna and cold plunge on site alongside locker rooms and showers. Contact ahead for drop-in access.
Best use: Contrast therapy plus a proper shower if you have already checked out.
DOWNTOWN YMCA, 1000 CHURCH ST
Pool, sauna and steam room 12 minutes from the venue, open 05:00 to 21:00 on weekdays, 07:00 to 17:00 Saturday and 09:00 to 17:00 Sunday. Guest and reciprocal-membership access is reported to be straightforward.
Best use: The cheap contrast option on the evening you race.
PHYSIOS NEAR VENUE
Results Physiotherapy, Downtown YMCA, 1000 Church St
13 minutes' walk, closed at weekends. Weekday racers only.
Vanderbilt Health walk-in clinics
The nearest are in Belcourt, Melrose and Belle Meade, all a drive rather than a walk, open 07:30 to 19:30 on weekdays and 08:00 to 17:00 at weekends.
WEATHER STRATEGY
LATE NOVEMBER CONDITIONS
Nashville in December averages a high of about 9 °C (49 °F) and a low of about 2 °C (36 °F), with roughly 12 rain days, around 58 mm of precipitation and about 9 mm of snow across roughly 3 snow days. Relative humidity averages 78 percent and daylight is around 9 hours 42 minutes. These are monthly climate averages, not a forecast.
- Normal indoor race kit — the hall is heated and still
- A warm layer, hat and gloves over your race kit for the walk over, all of which comes off before the warm-up
- Dry layers in your bag for immediately after you finish
- A packable rain shell — rain is more likely than snow
- Something reflective if you shake out before sunrise at 06:46
💧 Hydration
Humidity is high at 78 percent, so dryness is not the issue outdoors — but a heated hall plus cold outdoor air will still dry you out. Drink normally through the day before rather than loading in the last hour.
🏟️ Indoor vs Outdoor
All racing is indoors on a level hall floor. Everything either side of it — the walk in, the queue, the rideshare wait — is outdoors and near freezing at 06:00.
SHAKEOUT RUN ROUTES
RIVERFRONT LOOP — ABOUT 4.1 KM, 5 KM WITH THE BRIDGE
Start at the Music City Center main entrance, head northeast to the Riverfront transit stop, pick up the paved riverside path north through Riverfront Park, come back south along the river to the west landing of the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, then return west to the venue. That loop measures about 4.1 km; add an out-and-back across the pedestrian bridge to make roughly 5 km. Paved throughout, mixed greenway and city pavement, and flat. Riverfront Park has toilets and is open 06:00 to 23:00, but do not count on water fountains being live in December.
🏃 Parkrun
We could not find a parkrun event listed in Nashville. Check parkrun USA before you assume there is a Saturday 5 km option.
🏟️ Track Access
There is no publicly bookable outdoor track within walking distance of the venue.
Sunrise on race weekend is 06:46 to 06:49 and sunset is 16:32, so a shakeout before an 08:00 wave happens in the dark — stick to the lit riverfront and downtown blocks and wear something reflective. One to avoid: Wasioto Park on the east bank, renamed from Cumberland Park in December 2024, is currently in poor repair with water features out of service and East Bank stadium construction affecting the site. It is not the pleasant riverside loop older guides describe.

SPECTATOR GUIDE
BEST VIEWING ZONES
- Spectator tickets are sold through the same HYROX ticketing link as athlete entries — buy in advance rather than at the door
- HYROX lists a raised viewing area it calls the Thunderdome, offering a view across the racing floor
- The wall ball zone and the finish are where the atmosphere is; the sled lanes are where you get a clear look at your athlete working
- Age group ceremonies run after all athletes in a division have competed, and the Nashville ceremony schedule is still To Be Announced
- If your athlete podiums on a weekday they get free ceremony access from the Help Desk with ID, but extra spectators need their own ticket
FAMILY LOGISTICS
- Music City Center is a modern convention centre, so pram access, lifts, accessible toilets and wide concourses are all a given
- Accessible parking sits next to the lifts on each of the three garage levels
- Food inside is convention-centre priced — Fresh Pick Market on the west side of the building and Assembly Food Hall 6 minutes away are both better value
- It will be loud for hours. Bring ear defenders for small children
- The Country Music Hall of Fame is 3 minutes away and open 09:00 to 17:00, which fills a supporter's morning without a long walk
📍 MEET-UP PLAN
Agree the spot before you go in, because mobile signal in a packed exhibit hall is unreliable. The Nashville Music Garden at 400 Demonbreun St is 3 minutes from the main entrance, outdoors and unmistakable. In cold or wet weather, use the Country Music Hall of Fame lobby instead, also 3 minutes away and indoors.

LOCAL RULES & EMERGENCY INFO
Photo ID is non-negotiable
On-site registration opens 90 minutes before your division's first wave and nobody can check in on your behalf. Work back 20 minutes from your check-in window, not from your start time.
Garage has no in-and-out
Music City Center garage at 701 Demonbreun St runs $15 to $45 depending on duration, with no re-entry on the same ticket. Hotel valet downtown is $55 to $82 per night, so the garage is usually cheaper.
Tipping
18 to 20 percent at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a few dollars for hotel valet or bag handling. Counter service and food halls do not require it, though the terminal will still ask.
Cash vs card
Card everywhere. The exception is WeGo buses, which take contactless and mobile wallets but not American Express, and otherwise want exact cash.
Sales tax
Nashville's combined sales tax is 9.75 percent and is not included in displayed prices, so a $12 menu item costs $13.17 before tip. Groceries are taxed lower than prepared food.
Weekend closures
Nutrishop the Gulch and Fortitude Sports Massage close Sunday, and Results Physiotherapy closes both Saturday and Sunday. There are no US public holidays between 9 and 13 December 2026.
Travel insurance
US healthcare costs are high and an emergency room visit without cover is a serious financial event. If you are travelling from outside the US, insure the trip and check it covers competitive event participation.

Non-emergency medical advice
Hospital: Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital Midtown, 2000 Church St, open 24 hours and about 2.8 km from the venue — take a rideshare rather than walking it. TriStar Centennial Medical Center ER at 2300 Patterson St is a further 800 m west and also 24 hours. For something less urgent, the nearest Vanderbilt Health walk-in clinics are in Belcourt, Melrose and Belle Meade, open 07:30 to 19:30 weekdays and 08:00 to 17:00 at weekends.
Pharmacy: Walgreens at 226 Rep. John Lewis Way N is the closest at about 12 minutes but closes at 20:00, which is before the evening waves finish on three of the five days. The CVS at 426 21st Ave S is listed as 24 hours, though recent reviews dispute that — phone before you cross town at night.
