TL;DR — RACE WEEKEND GAME PLAN
- 1.Stay in Arenastaden/Solna if racing; it is the cleanest setup by far.
- 2.If you stay central, use commuter rail to Solna station and walk the last 10 minutes.
- 3.Treat December daylight and cold as logistics variables, not background detail. Book ahead.
- 4.Carb dinner: Vapiano. Backup breakfast and coffee: Espresso House. Grocery fix: ICA Kvantum.
- 5.Shakeout: easy loop near Råstasjön or Hagaparken, not a hero session.
- 6.Race morning: build more buffer than the train times suggest. Transfers and crowds matter.
- 7.PB chance is decent because weather should be mild, but 'Worlds energy' can wreck pacing.
- 8.Best recovery play: walkable treatment in Arenastaden, then sauna/cold later if staying on.
- 9.Avoid driving, avoid staying too far away, and avoid underestimating the station-to-arena walk in the dark.
QUICK TAKE — IS THIS A GOOD DESTINATION?
VERDICT: YES
Yes - very good, especially for athletes who want to race the floor that hosted the 2026 World Championships without needing to qualify for anything. Everything is clustered: food, shopping, hotels and transport all sit around the arena. Cost level is high, but the logistics are better than a lot of prettier, more annoying cities.
⚠️ Caveat: This is a regular open-field race in deep winter, not the summer championship. The friction is cold, darkness, a longer station-to-door walk than most arena races, and an Arlanda transfer with a fee structure that catches people out.
Arena access is strong and public transport is excellent. What raises stress is the cold, the dark, and the walk from Solna station to the arena. Stay near Solna to keep it low.
Flat indoor arena, controlled climate, and minimal travel fatigue if you base yourself in Solna. This is a regular open field, so the pacing pressure of a championship weekend does not apply.
FAST COURSE?
Depends. The arena setup should allow a flat, potentially fast indoor flow, but big-arena setups can also get turn-heavy. HYROX has not published the lap count or floor plan for this edition.
CITY VIBE — WHAT ATHLETES NEED TO KNOW
Stockholm is clean, organized, and easy to move around if you respect the geography. The inner city is walkable, but the race venue is in Solna/Arenastaden, just outside the core. That is good news for HYROX: you can either stay race-adjacent and keep stress low, or stay central and still get in by commuter rail quickly. Safety and walkability are generally strong.
TYPICAL WEEKEND COSTS
Currency: SEK (Swedish krona). Stockholm is heavily card-first / cash-light, and Strawberry Arena itself is cash-free. Tipping is not expected; rounding up for solid service is normal.
BEST BASE NEIGHBOURHOODS
Arenastaden / Solna
Best for: Lowest race stress, venue walkability, spectator convenience. This is the pro move.
Norrmalm / Central Station
Best for: Airport logistics, short rail hop to Solna, mixed budgets.
Vasastan / Odenplan
Best for: Calmer stay, good cafés, quick commuter access. Odenplan to Solna by commuter rail is about 4 minutes before the walk.
Östermalm
Best for: Premium stay, quieter feel, nicer recovery weekend.
VENUE & LOCATION ANALYSIS
Strawberry Arena
Råsta Strandväg 1, 169 79 Solna
Sits in Arenastaden beside Westfield Mall of Scandinavia, which is exactly what you want for race ops: hotels, coffee, groceries, pharmacy, gym, and backup logistics all within the same zone. Modern arena/shopping/business district, not postcard Stockholm — for athletes, that is a plus.
NEAREST STATIONS
- Solna station — Commuter rail — ~10 min walk to arena
- Solna centrum — Metro — ~20 min walk
- Näckrosen — Metro — ~15 min walk
WALKABILITY
8/10 in the venue zone. Hotels, food, pharmacy, and transport are all clustered in Arenastaden. In the wider city, it depends where you stay.
WHAT'S OPEN EARLY
- Hotel breakfast is your safest race-morning option. Several nearby hotels include breakfast.
- Espresso House in the mall zone opens as early as 07:00 on weekdays.
- The wider mall generally opens 10:00–21:00, so do not rely on normal retail for early race-morning needs.
- ICA Kvantum in Mall of Scandinavia for pre-bought race food.
🏃 RACE MORNING PLAN
Staying next to the arena: leave 20–30 min before you want to be inside. From Norrmalm / Central: build for 45–60 min door-to-door. From Vasastan / Odenplan: build for 35–50 min. Least-stress approach: commuter rail to Solna station + walk, or just stay in Arenastaden and walk.
⚠️ MISTAKES TO AVOID
- Staying too far from Solna because "Stockholm is compact." Door-to-door race-morning friction still matters.
- Underestimating the walk from Solna station to the arena in December darkness - it is longer than most arena races.
- Driving unless you absolutely need to. The arena recommends public transport, and Mall of Scandinavia parking fills fast.
- Waiting until after the race to sort food and recovery. December daylight is short and kitchens close earlier than you expect.
TRANSPORT LINKS
BEST AIRPORT: STOCKHOLM ARLANDA AIRPORT (ARN)
The main international gateway, with the strongest route network and the cleanest connection into central Stockholm.
Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN)
Main airport. Arlanda Express to Central in 18 min. Flygbussarna from 129 SEK.
Time to venue: ~40–45 min via rail + walk
ARN Airport → Strawberry Arena, Solna
PUBLIC TRANSPORT TIPS
- Stockholm public transport (SL) is strong. For central race-weekend moves, it is usually the best answer.
- A single SL ticket is 43 SEK and valid for 75 minutes.
- Use the SL app or tap a contactless payment card directly at barriers/readers.
- For a 2–4 day trip, the 24h / 72h / 7-day cards are often worth it.
- Stockholm Central → Solna station: 7 min train + 10 min walk.
- Odenplan → Solna station: 4 min train + 10 min walk.
- T-Centralen → Solna centrum metro: ~10 min + 20 min walk.
🚕 Taxi / Ride-hail
Taxis are easy from Arlanda, but airport demand can create shortages at times, especially late. Swedish taxis are not price-regulated, so agree the fare or use a fixed-price option before getting in.
🚗 Driving + Parking
The arena explicitly recommends public transport over driving. Mall of Scandinavia has ~3,700 parking spaces, but they can fill rapidly during large events. Public transport wins.
WHERE TO STAY
Quality Hotel Strawberry Arena
Near venue~SEK 1,400–2,300+
Best for: Athletes who want the lowest possible race stress, plus spectators who want to step out of the arena and be "done."
Breakfast included, gym, sauna. The arena FAQ points to it as the adjacent hotel. Ask for a quiet room and confirm breakfast timing for early heats.
Comfort Hotel Solna
Budget-friendly~SEK 1,100–1,900
Best for: Budget-conscious athletes who still want to stay close and keep transport drama out of the weekend.
Breakfast included, 24/7 staffed front desk, gym, some rooms with kitchen. More functional than plush, but fine for HYROX ops.
Elite Hotel Carolina Tower
Mid-range~SEK 1,300–2,300
Best for: Better sleep quality, stronger comfort, and a more "proper hotel" feel without luxury pricing.
Air conditioning, breakfast buffet, sky gym, sauna/relax area. Good play if you want comfort but not the arena cluster.
At Six
Luxury~SEK 2,800–5,500+
Best for: Premium city stay, nicer post-race weekend, and easiest airport-to-hotel flow via central Stockholm.
Gym access, breakfast options, central location near the Arlanda Express arrival zone. Tradeoff: not venue-adjacent, so race morning needs more discipline.

The Social Bar & Bistro
Athlete PickGood for convenience and a proper sit-down feed without commuting. In the adjacent Quality Hotel.

Central Stockholm dinner
Post-Race"We did Worlds" feeling. Short rail move back into town.
Sauna / recovery session
Post-RaceBetter post-race choice than fake sightseeing.
RACE STRATEGY
VENUE
Strawberry Arena is a major event venue. Official course flow for Stockholm Worlds has not been published yet, so nobody should pretend to know the exact fastest line. Big arenas usually reward athletes who stay calm early and do not get baited by noise, lights, and adrenaline.
COURSE FLOW
Likely indoor event flooring or arena-concourse style race surface. Queues and congestion more relevant for warm-up, entry, and station rhythm than for the city itself.
RUN SURFACE
Likely indoor event flooring or arena-concourse style race surface, but unconfirmed.
HEAT
Outside is near freezing. Inside, a full arena with the heating on gets warm and sticky quickly. The swing between the two is what to manage, not the outdoor cold itself.
ELEVATION
Effectively flat inside, though venue approaches and concourse ramps can still nibble at legs before/after the race.
⚠️ WHERE PEOPLE BLOW UP
Run 1-2: going out like it is a 60-minute fitness test. Sled push: overgearing early and torching legs. Burpee broad jumps into row/ski pace: too much ego. Lunges / wall balls: racing the crowd instead of your own breathing. Fix: start 1-2% easier than your ego wants, treat the first sled as a limit on damage, keep run cadence smooth if the course gets turny.

RECOVERY SPOTS
ICE BATHS / COLD PLUNGE
THE SACRED SAUNA
Johanneshov, Stockholm. Cold plunge + sauna contrast when you want a deliberate recovery session, not just hotel-foam-roll theater.
Best use: Deliberate cold plunge + sauna contrast recovery.
SAUNAS & SPAS
HELLASGÅRDEN SAUNA
Nacka, Stockholm. More outdoorsy reset if you are staying on longer. Check access and opening before you go.
Best use: Outdoor-style recovery for longer stays.
WELCOME SPA
Pool, sauna, and calmer hotel-style unwind. Better as a premium recovery add-on than a quick same-hour stop.
Best use: Pool + sauna premium unwind.
SPORTS MASSAGE
- Naprapatlandslaget Arenastaden — about 5–10 min on foot from venue. Pre-book for same-day or next-day work. Excellent convenience for targeted post-race tissue work.
PHYSIOS NEAR VENUE
Agilokliniken Arenastaden
About 10 min from venue. Direct booking recommended. Assessment if something feels more than "normal HYROX wrecked."
Idrottskliniken Rehab, Arenastaden
About 10 min from venue. Sports-focused follow-up if you need rehab rather than a recovery treat. Check weekend availability.
WEATHER STRATEGY
JUNE CONDITIONS
December in Stockholm sits around -3C to +1C with roughly 6 hours of daylight. Sunrise is near 08:40 and sunset near 14:50, so most of the race weekend happens in the dark.
- Light race kit.
- Thin outer layer for morning queueing / post-race.
- Cap optional, mainly for outdoor waits rather than the race itself.
💧 Hydration
Do not treat cool weather as a reason to ignore electrolytes. Indoor arena environments, warm-up nerves, and long event days can still dry you out.
🏟️ Indoor vs Outdoor
Outside: cold, dark, often damp underfoot. Inside: warmer than you expect once the arena fills. Dress for the walk, not for the race.
SHAKEOUT RUN ROUTES
RÅSTASJÖN OUT-AND-BACK (~5KM)
Start at Strawberry Arena, head toward Råstasjön, run a controlled lakeside section, then return via the arena district. The full Råstasjön loop is often cited around 6.4 km, so for a true 5k you will want a cutback rather than the whole thing. Mixed paved and park-path sections. Good in daylight.
HAGAPARKEN
Great option for a calmer run in a large green space. Haga parkrun runs Saturdays at 09:30 in Hagaparken, Solna — good if your race schedule allows.
🏃 Parkrun
Haga parkrun — every Saturday at 09:30 in Hagaparken, Solna. Great option if your race schedule allows and you can keep your ego under control.
🏟️ Track Access
Stockholm Olympic Stadium — official city info says it is open to the public every day for jogging/practice, though check for event conflicts.
Råstasjön: mixed paved and park-path sections, safe in daylight. For toilets/water, use hotels, the mall, or venue-area businesses rather than assuming every loop stop is equipped.

CROSSFIT NORDIC
One of the bigger Stockholm functional-fitness options, with classes and open gym.

Another nearby box option.
COMMERCIAL GYMS
SATS Mall of Scandinavia

Very practical. Treadmills, rowers, SkiErg, air bikes, and a large facility footprint.

- Watch Sled Push / Sled Pull for carnage.
- Watch Burpee Broad Jumps for pacing collapse.
- Watch Wall Balls for finish-line drama.

FAMILY LOGISTICS
- Strawberry Arena has baby-changing facilities and accessible toilets.
- The venue is cash-free.
- Outside food/drink is generally not allowed.
